When it rebooted, sound was not working properly. Windows 7 proceeded to perform a repair and restore the regular HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO DEVICE driver. The repair suceeded, but the driver information left behind by the new driver has resulted in surround sound via SPDIF working again.
Also, I very much recommend the use of AC3Filter for those who are interested in further customization.
I hope this helps everybody who had this very hellish problem that Intel did absolutely nothing to address.
