Hi, my customized Skylake build seems to freeze randomly(With no BSOD or any other error messages) only when playing games (CSGO / FFXIV / Blade & Soul). Sometimes it freezes within 5mins, sometimes i can play for 1 day without any freezing.
*Does not freeze when i do any other activities(Surfing the net / leaving the computer overnight) beside playing games.
Spec:
Processor: Intel i7-6700
Motherboard: Asus H170 Pro Gaming
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2400MHz 4GBx2
GPU: MSI GTX 970 Armor 4GB
PSU: Corsair CX Series 750W PSU
SSD: Samsung 950 Evo 250GB
HDD: WD Blue 1TB
OS: Windows 10 x64
Drivers and Bios are all updated.
Overheating is not a problem, temperatures remains at an average of 50-55 degree Celsius.
Some tweaks i made from googling / reading forums about these issues:
-Up-ed DRam voltage from 1.2V to 1.25V
-Disabled C-state
-Switched from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1
None of the above seem to help, the freezes still occurs. Please help
Update: I have reverted back the settings of the tweaks i made since it does not help.
Update 2: Read some old threads here, should i disable Intel Turbo Mode? According to Intel Processor Diagnostic Tools:
Expected CPU Frequency: 3.40
Detected CPU Frequency: 3.67898
Update 3: Increased CPU Core Voltage from 1v to 1.2v, and CPU System Agent voltage to 1.1v. So far no system freezes for 1day

Hello, Octopulse:
- Could you please let us know the driver version you are running? Please go to Device Manger> Display adapters> Intel(R) HD Graphics right click on Properties and then go to Driver, you will be able to see the version installed.
- Have you tried running the game without the video card?

There is no Intel(R) HD Graphics there, i only see my Nvidia GTX 970. Hence, didn't play any games without GTX970.
Some minor update: I have not freeze for a day after upping my CPU voltage(From 1v to 1.2v) and CPU System Agent voltage(From 1v to 1.1v)
Will continue to update here if the freezing continues.

Any idea why the stock voltage causes freezing? I didn't overclock anything. No freezing for 2days already after increasing CPU voltage

Apparently i was told that the default voltage should be 1.2 instead of 1. Can someone confirm this? My bios default puts 1v. why?

Bear in mind that whenever you add a graphics card to the motherboard it will disable the graphics provided by the processor unless you have a feature in the BIOS that can provide you to choose between them. That is the reason why you are not able to see the Intel® HD Graphics on the device manager when the graphics card is plugged on the motherboard.
Take into consideration that this processor is locked which means that it cannot be overclocked. When overclocking a locked processor any issue will be expected since you are running the specs out of the standards also, please bear in mind that if you overclock you are voiding the warranty.
Here you can get more information about the overclocking causing games to crash http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2428500/overclocking-gpu-games-crash.html Overclocking GPU causes games to crash - Overclocking - Overclocking

I did not overclock manually. When i bought the CPU, it was overclocked automatically? It should be Intel Turbo mode, correct me if im wrong.
It was enabled according to my Asus H170 Pro Gaming bios. I have hence disabled it. But disabling it did not stop the freezing, increasing the CPU and CPU SA voltage does. Any info why? I was told by someone on another forum that 1.2v should be the default for my processor not 1v. Why does my mobo set the default as 1v ?
Also, are you implying that i should disable Turbo mode since my processor is not for overclocking and turbo mode overclocks it automatically.

Did you contact ASUS in regard to the motherboard being overclocked? This is uncommon behavior and my recommendation before continuing is to contact them first to check if there is something wrong with the motherboard.

It is Intel Turbo Mode that is 'overclocking' the CPU

Turbo mode is opportunistic frequency where power/thermal head room is available to switch normal frequency to turbo mode. It also is specs of CPU. It is not overclocking CPU. You should leave CPU at default condition and try your game, if it is freeze, then you might need contact OEM motherboard for the new BIOS which has patch to fix Skylake freeze when running heavy workload. Or you can contact Intel for RMA
