Is it possible to use this particular Xeon with a normal board, with non-ECC RAM? From what I have seen it should work, but I don't want to sink my money into a new processor and motherboard that won't work together. So, will it work with a Z170 board such as an ASRock Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming board (or any desktop Z170 chipset motherboard, not just that one in particular)?
According to the CPU support from ASRock the following motherboard supports this CPU ASRock > Fatal1ty E3V5 Performance Gaming/OC. I would recommend to contact the motherboard manufacturer in order to obtain more information.
From our end the compatible server/Workstation boards are the following Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1240 v5 (8M Cache, 3.50 GHz) Specifications.
