Thanks for reaching out. Yes I have had all the hardware removed (hdd, m2.SSD and the memory) but still could not get into the bios so finally I reset the cmos battery. Then reinstalled the bios software and removed the jumper to boot directly in to the bios. Log and behold it worked :-). I deselected the safe boot option. Made a new usb bootable linuxmint iso with EFI using Rufus boot loader and I am up and runnig linuxmint again. (had my /home on 1TB HDD partion so no data loss)
Both Suspend and Hibernate are working now as well....
I must say that I still find it very strange that linuxmint could corrupt the bios? Maybe I had forgotten to deselect secure boot...
