I want to exchange my i7 4790k due to failure but i dont have the box that came with it. i have everything else. should i be worried? its been less than 3years.

If after troubleshooting the issue, a replacement is necessary, with the information that is in the metal plate of the processor should be good to replace the unit.
Indeed having the box would be better to get the S/N also, but with the processor only you should be able to replace the unit if still under warranty.
