I'm helping a young friend with his first build and he is very careful interpreting the documentation which shows a 2x4 connector being used for the CPU power connector. However, Intel shows many power approved power supplies that have 2x2 CPU power connectors and I always thought that the 2x4 is a "nice to have" but not necessary.
Is this accurate?
I hate to see him spend another $100 on a power supply that he doesn't need. He'll probably have to mow 5 lawns to pay for it!
