    82865G with 1920 x 1080 resolution?

I try to install a new monitor on my Dell Computer Dimension 3000 with a Intel 82865G integrated card. In the list of possible resolutions that is giving by the Intel extreme graphics 2 pilot, I have to chose between, 1280 x 768, 1280 x 1080, 1600 x 1200 or 1900 x 1200. As my new monitor needs 1920 x 1080, is there something I can do? I have the Driver installed

I have the same problem as well.  I am using Viewsonic VA2223wm monitor and trying to get the 865G graphics controller to go into 1920x1080 mode but without success.  I have upgraded the 865G driver to v6.14.10.4396.  But I still cannot see a resolution of 1920x1080.  The operating system is Windows 2000.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I just purchased a Viewsonic VA2323wm 23" monitor with max. resolution of 1920 x 1080. but the best resolution I was able to get out of my Dell Dimension 3000 equipped with the Intel integrated Extreme Graphics 2  is 1280 x 1024. That makes the display stretch horizontally. I did research in the web. and downloaded the latest driver from Intel site but no help. Right now my latest working driver installed is and the best resolution from that is 1280 x 1024.  I also downloaded the win2k_XP_14365_Intel_driver.exe (19.9MB) but when I tried to install it, I got a message " This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software ---- Setup will EXIT"; I also downloaded the sp26814 but when tried to install, I got message "----missing couple files and stopped"; I called Viewsonic support and they don't anything how to fix the resolution problem and directed me to contact Dell or Intel.

I sure hope somebody in this Intel Support Community will able to give us some kind of answer or perhaps suggest some PCI graphic card to plug into the Dimension 3000 to resolve this resolution problem.

I installed a Dell ST2410 monitor today on my Dell Dimension 3000 with a 82865G Graphics controller and I, also, am unable to achieve the desired 1920 x 1080 resolution.  The maximum resolution I am able to select is 1280 x 1024.  I have downloaded all upgrades I can find with no success.  Is there any solution with the 82865G or do I need a different Graphics controller?  Dell told me the ST2410 was the right large flat screen monitor with the Dell Dimension 3000 as it connects with a VGA cable.  Yes, it comes up, but the picture is not pretty.  It is all drawn out across the screen.  It seems I am repeating the request for a solution.  Has anyone, anywhere been able to get 1920 x 1080 resolution with the 82865G?

              • 4. Re: 82865G with 1920 x 1080 resolution?

Well, I fixed the problem -- sort of.  When I hook up the monitor to my Linux laptop, it displays in the 1920x1080 resolution without any problems.  When I hook up the monitor to my Dell Optiplex running Windows 2000, it can only display upto 1280x1024.  I talked to the Dell technical support and they were essentially of no help.  It seems that the Intel 865G graphics card is capable of displaying the higher resolution, but no one at Dell could tell me how to get to that point.  I already have the latest driver loaded in the Windows OS.

In short, Dell's response was to (a) buy a new graphics card (no thank you), or (b) upgrade your OS (again, no thanks.  Windows 2000 is bad enough.)

So, I am simply using the new monitor on my Linux laptop where it is recognized without any problem and appears as a secondary display device.

                  I run my Dell Dimension 3000 with the Linux (Ubuntu 8.041.1 CD), and I was able to get my Viewsonic VA2323wm monitor to display 1920 x 1080 resolution. in fact with the Linux installed in my Dell Dimension  3000 with the Intel integrated Extreme graphics 2  I was able to set to all the following monitor resolutions:  1920 x 1080; 1600 x 1200; 1680 x 1050; 1400 x 1050 ; 1280 x 1024; 1440 x 900; 1280 x  960; 1152 x 864; 1024 x 768; 832 x 624; 800 x 600 ; 640 x 480 ; 720 x 400.  Seem to me the Dimension 3000 integrated graphic definitely can support the 1920 x 1080 resolution. The only problem is that Intel or Dell doesn't want to get us the updated driver to support the higher resolution. .  Perhaps they want us to buy new graphic card!

All we need will be a updated driver from either Intel or Dell for the Dimension 3000.

I have encountered the same issue with a dell system. Here are some tips:

                    1. Install a PCI videocard.

                    2. Update the Windows Settings to list all modes (even the ones not supported by the Monitor)

For this one, the first step is to load the correct driver for the Monitor, I have been testing with a Samsun 2433LW.

Next step is, open display properties from the control panel, select settings and then choose advanced.

In advanced mode, select the Monitor tab and uncheck the "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display".

Now other resolutions then the 1280x1024 should be available. Like 1600x1200. I know it is sStill not 1920x1080

but it is better then 1280x1024. Make sure to check the Screen refresh rate when selecting a mode, as it needs

to be compatible with your monitor. On the Dell system I have test this with 1900x1200 but due to the refresh rate

this was not providing a proper image on the monitor.

From the old days (early windows versions) I remember you could make/set your own resolution setting. I will

try to find out if this is still possible and works. If it does, I will update this post.

                    • 7. Re: 82865G with 1920 x 1080 resolution?

Try this driver, http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-029955.htm . I was specifically configured for issues such as this.

Keep in mind if you have a OEM customized driver on your system this driver will not overwrite it. That is by design to protect the OEM customizations. If you are willing to take the risk and loose any graphics customizations for your system you can install the Intel driver using the have disk method. I would recommend saving a restore point before proceeding so you can revert back to previous settings if you are not satisfied with the results.

Also the error in your case is because the chipset is not able to recognize your EDID (Extended display identification data) from the monitor. If you are not willing to try the suggestion above you can also install the monitor drivers (provided by the monitor manufacturer). This will allow the chipset to display the supported resolutions of your monitor.

                        • 9. Re: 82865G with 1920 x 1080 resolution?

I just got an Acer H233H 23" monitor which recommends 1920x1080 resolution, but am running into the same problem as the others above. The Intel 82865G will only allow 1920x1200 ratio. I have tried the above fix but keep getting error message: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit." I'm using a Dell 2400 Windows XP. Any suggestions outside of buying a new video card or reconfiguring software?

                          • 10. Re: 82865G with 1920 x 1080 resolution?

                            Hello there,

I too have experience the problem that everyone has mentioned.  I attempted to update the 82865G driver with the Intel untested workaround.  After selecting have disk, I saw a number of drivers listed, but none of them seem to be within the same family as the 865G driver.  So, I did not complete the update.

If anyone else has attempting this, which driver set did you apply for the update?

Also, does Intel plan to update the drivers to support this type of display resolution?

                            • 11. Re: 82865G with 1920 x 1080 resolution?

This driver does not work with this chipset.  I get an error message when trying to install it saying I don't meet system requirements.

                              • 12. Re: 82865G with 1920 x 1080 resolution?

I resolved the issue by installing a new graphics card, compatible with my machine.  All work great.

                                  Hi everybody!

I had the same resolution problem with i82865G chipset. After few days of resource (reading forums, blogs, lots of comments etc...) found a great article here:

Upon following instructions from the post I DID manage to create a custom driver handling 19120x1080 resolution what I am happy to share you with. R U ready ?

Give it a try and let me know your experiences.

It works fine for me and hope it will help you too... good luck.

I also have the ACER.  On their site they give directions for installing their driver.

                                    Has anybody tried it?

Anybody have any idea of what "custom settings" might be lost?
