Need help determining maximum L2 cache for a CPU upgrade

I have an older Gateway Computer that has an Intel D845GERG3 mobo  aka (Essex 2)

The Gateway support has this page about this mobo   http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/INTEL/2519056/2519056sp28.shtml

It does not list the highest L2 cache that the board supports, only says Pentium 4 with 400/533 FSB.

I noticed Intel support having a mobo   D845GERG2     one number different than my board.   http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845gerg2/sb/cs-020076.htm

This board appears to only support up to 512K L2 Cache.   Am I safe to assume that my Essex 2 will only support up to 512K cache.  If it supports the 1MB cache I would like to upgrade to that.  Im just not sure since I cannot find anything in writing about the Essex 2      L2 cache support?

Does anyone have this info?   I have done a live Chat with Gateway support and they dont know the answer.    Great job Gateway!
