I have a new HP laptop with an Intel i7 6th gen. processor. When online, I repeatedly get error messages that the Intel HD graphics driver (520) has stopped and then recovered. I've updated that driver and all the others on the my computer, but the messages keep on coming. Please help. I am not very tech. savvy so need clear directions. THANKS

Hello gardenpidot,

Please take into consideration the fact Intel provides generic versions of drivers for general purposes. Your http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm computer manufacturer may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to your driver. Intel recommends you contact your computer manufacturer for the latest system specific updates and technical support information.

You could try uninstalling current driver and then installing https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25484/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40- Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 7/8.1/10* [15.40] additionally, you could try the Beta drivers https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25541/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40- Download Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows® 7/8.1/10* [15.40]

Please let me know of the outcome.

Regards,

CaesarB_Intel.

There seems to be a lot of this going around without any real answers.

Today, it got worse. While online, the screen just went dark and wouldn't respond to any stimulus. I had to force a reboot. I guess this time the Intel graphics driver crashed and did not recover.

Thanks for your response, Caesar from Intel.

I have now spent hours with HP tech people, and they have tried everything they can think of, and now are suggesting I reinstall the entire system, which means many hours of reinstalling everything including my software and configuring everything. I am reluctant to do this, since even after all the investment of time and effort of a total reinstall I strongly suspect that the same conflict (or whatever this is) will occur. HP tech has already reinstalled all the relevant drivers, etc, according to their requirements.

It is a very unhappy status for a brand new computer with the latest Intel processor, etc.. This problem is occurring on other new computers, as shown on this community board, and Intel needs to find a solution. My laptop is brand new and all Intel, including your latest processor (6th gen) i-7 and most of the drivers, including the graphics driver that is malfunctioning. Please take charge of this, Intel.

Below is verbatim what the pop-out error report says. This happens only when on the web, and randomly when viewing different web pages. Sometimes it happens in quick succession several times in a row, and a few times caused the screen to go dark and required a forced restart on the power button:

"Display driver Intel HD graphics driver for Windows 8(R) stopped responding and has recovered."

Despite what this screen suggests, my computer was shipped new (2 weeks ago) directly from the HP factory with Windows 10 preinstalled. I have not upgraded the system from Windows 8 to 10.

Thank you. Please help. I can be communicated with directly of course.

So far, I have only experienced this when online. The computer being brand new and running Windows 10, I generally use the new Windows browser, Edge. which has a very streamlined interface, but I've encountered the same thing when using Internet Explorer. When online, the error messages come at random times, sometimes quickly in succession, sometimes only occasionally, and seem to have nothing to do with the degree of browsing activity or the particular web pages visited, sometimes happening when on travel web sites, sometimes on the New York Times, sometimes just reading email. Again, the issue arises only when online and not running any other app.

I have the same problem - intermittently. Brand new Dell XPS 13.

The display keeps flickering off and on, like the first XPS they shipped me. I'm getting this one replaced too, I can't have a $2k machine with these kinds of issues out of the box.

My XPS also won't come out of sleep mode without a BSOD. This may be related, I'm not sure. I'll open a new thread for it, but the driver that causes the crash is:

file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\intcdaud.sys

product: http://www.google.com/search?q=Intel(R)%20Display%20Audio Intel(R) Display Audio

company: http://www.google.com/search?q=Intel(R)%20Corporation Intel(R) Corporation

This is an update, and possible solution. I had more lengthy discussions with HP tech support, and they wanted me to reinstall the entire operating system, which I was reluctant to do since this would require starting from scratch replacing everything. In a final discussion prompted by another issue with a different tech person from HP, he encouraged me to let him try his hand at fixing the Intel graphics problem. He uninstalled the HD graphics driver and reinstalled the Beta version of the driver from the Intel web site, rather than just updating or repairing the driver as had been done by HP tech support previously. This is what Intel's rep suggested in his post earlier in this chain. I have now had one full day of computer use without experiencing the graphics driver errors that were haunting my computer. This is a hopeful sign and may be the end of the problem. I'll report back here if the problem resurfaces.

So, it appears at the moment that the fix for this problem is to completely uninstall the offending Intel graphics driver (on my computer, this is Intel Graphics HD Driver 520) and reinstall the Beta version that is available on the Intel web site. See the post above from Intel.

Thank you to all who participated in this discussion. I will report further if the problem resurfaces.

Hi,

I purchased a HP ab522tx pavilion laptop in February. I was regularly getting an Intel driver error. This comes up all of a sudden, the lappy hangs, sometimes there's a black screen for a few seconds too. In the first few days it used to say driver for windows 8 but after the update the errors are still there but no windows 8 is written. I have contacted the HP customer support multiple times, they even took the lappy in control via remote but nothing happened. They gave me a ftp link to download the drivers, which I did but when I was to install them the drivers from the link , the installer file had outdated versions than the versions in the lappy. Kindly check the screenshots.

HP said that there's some issue with the motherboard and they replaced it but still the issue was there. I contacted Intel, first they told me this-

I understand that you have the 6th generation of the Intel HD 520 graphics and Windows 10, and there is an error message that appears several times stating that the Intel graphics driver has stopped working and recovered. First I want to let you know that this is a known issue that appeared with the last Microsoft Update in November for Windows 10, as you can see at: http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-november-update-issues-bugs Also we have a link with the information about this same general problem error message: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005482.html But Microsoft has release a new Intel graphics driver package that has been working very well fixing this "stopped and recovery" error message. So as troubleshooting steps, the first thing I will suggest to try is uninstalling the current driver you have, but from device manager as follows: on the keyboard let's press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters>>Intel HD Graphics>>Driver tab>>Uninstall>>Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device>>OK, restart the computer. Once the computer has been restarted, Windows 10 will try to apply a new Intel graphics driver which is their new package, if it does not do it automatically run the Microsoft Windows 10 update tool => select the Start button , then select Settings > Update & security >Windows Update > Check for updates. If the Windows 10 latest update does not fix the problem, you can use the latest Intel graphics driver for your configuration (you might need to uninstall the driver again if an error message appears when attempting to install the generic Intel graphics driver we have): https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25818/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-?product=88345 Download Intel Graphics Driver for Windows 7/8.1/10* [15.40

So, I uninstalled Intel's driver and tried installing the one's downloaded from Intel's website. When I restarted the pc the light was so bright even at the lowest brightness settings. Then I got these errors-

http://oi66.tinypic.com/judf8h.jpg http://oi66.tinypic.com/judf8h.jpg

After this, the lappy said that the drivers are not installed, install from the dump installer file or something. I clicked yes so it has installed the drivers from the setup that came with the lappy.

Now Intel have told me that HP customizes their drivers for HP laptops that is why I was getting a non-compatible error when I was trying to install the generic Intel driver for the Graphic card.

My unit was replaced with a new one after 4 months today. Can you believe 4 months of harassment by HP? I didn't install anything except Firefox. The Win 10 auto update was running and then I got the same error as I used to get in the old unit. Please note that no error was there before the update i.e. before connecting it to the internet after the unboxing. I got two errors, was able to take the screenshot of the second one http://oi67.tinypic.com/vdmiu.jpg http://oi67.tinypic.com/vdmiu.jpg the first one said these same lines http://oi68.tinypic.com/34gt3s9.jpg http://oi68.tinypic.com/34gt3s9.jpg

Any help?

Another error, just check the time. It's a brand new unit

Some other errors-

http://oi66.tinypic.com/311mb1y.jpg http://oi66.tinypic.com/311mb1y.jpg

This one is by MS-

http://oi66.tinypic.com/htb9fr.jpg http://oi66.tinypic.com/htb9fr.jpg

The laptop didn't start after the above error, waited on the black screen for 2 minutes, then manually turned it off and then turned on. The booting time has increased now considerably.

This laptop and the one before were from the same batch, even the serial number of this one has the last two digits changed as compared to the older one.

I might be wrong, but it looks like MS updated the drivers of Intel from Intel's website which is causing the problems. Since HP uses customized drivers for its systems so that might be causing those errors.

What should I do now?

Thanks

Please try the latest Beta driver, you can download it here:

These does not work on a Harassment-Packard laptop citing compatibility issues, as they customize these drivers.

In that case, you can install the driver manually; you can follow the steps here:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html How to Manually Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10 & Windows 8* or Windows 8.1*

Uninstall the old driver, disconnect the internet and reinstall the Beta driver manually, if this does not work, then you will need to stay with the manufacturer driver.

Ivan

This will not work as it will give an incompatible error. This is because Harassment-Packard customizes the drivers. So, only drivers downloaded from their site works and not the one's downloaded from Intel's.

Check my post number 79 here, everything is mentioned in detail there-

The latest driver from the Intel website can help you solving this issue and it has solved this issue for other customers but if you're not able to install this driver then you will need to stay with your system manufacturer driver, however, if you disconnect the internet and install the driver manually it should work fine.

Dear Ivanu,

As already told to you the drivers downloaded from Intel's website won't install be in online or offline mode. Second Harassment-Packard's drivers are just like their customer centricity PATHETIC.
