What does a 'normal' file transfer look like?

I just got my ss4200e set up, with the latest firmware.  I mapped the nas as a network drive on my xp pro box and started to copy some .vob files/directories, about 150 gig.  I opened task mgr to watch the network activity and saw something I think is strang.  The file transfer started and hit about 35-40% of my 1gig nic, did that for about 10 seconds, went to zero for about 10 seconds, hit 35% about 10 seconds, lather, rinse, repeat.  The files are transfering, I see subdirectories appearing, but the network activity puzzles me, is this 'normal'?
