Intel recommends that end users http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18363 Download this firmware update tool and upgrade your SSD

• This new firmware provides Trim support (on 80GB and 160GB) and better sequential write performance (on 160GB)

ok, seems like everything is going straight forward.

i've got several questions, too. my first g2 was completely screwed up, so i rma'd it a couple of weeks ago. since then i did not use my new drive. i was waiting to get the new firmware.

1. is it necessary to leave 20% unpartitioned even when trim support is enabled?

2. wiper.sh would do the trim job under linux?

3. could anybody recommend a good information ressource on how to align a ssd in linux and "linux & ssds" in general? my research wasn't really successful.

4. if trim is enabled, nevertheless would you use an additional magnetic drive in case you would have some REALLY write intensive directories? i'm using gentoo linux...

I'll be reading the instructions and so on very carefully first!
