Well this board comes with two independent onboard SATA controllers:
- Intel Matrix
You can access Intel Matrix thru Ctrl + I.
The 3 blue SATA ports are for Marvell Controller.
The 4 black SATA ports are for Intel Matrix Controller.
You cannot mix them together.
The red SATA port is for e-SATA HDD.
From the document
You can see that the e-sata is part of the marvell sata controller, so i guess this would be activated when enabling the marvell controller in the bios.
Advanced >> Peripheral COnfiguration >> Secondary Sata controller enabled.
Yes, you can have different raid arrays from the two independent controllers Intel Matrix and Marvell. But the only thing i dont know whether you can make e-sata drive part of a raid array family. I have never tried because i never had an e-sata drive.
This may help you a bit to understand them better.
All the best,
