    Postville 80gb Ssd W7 64bits versus 32bits

    Polypenko

I updated the firmware once released, everything went okay.

But the problems I have are as follows.:

If I install my brand new Windows 7 Premium 64 bits, some times it remains on the SSD and other times

I get "bootmgr missing" or the data has vanished completely from my SSD"

Especially when I have disconnected my pc from the power source.

If I install the 32bits Version I basically have not problems at all.

So may a presume the firmware update in conjection with W7 64 bits remains the problem/bug

and a NEW firmware release will solve the current problems?

Also when 64 is running if often get a Bsod, caused by Ntoskrn.

      thanks for any feedback.

I was getting the same results and always with windows 7 x64.

Just a few reboots or a shutdown after having installed the os and then the "not a system disk" error was appearing.

          So I tried this procedure:

          - set ide compatibility mode in bios

          - erased the ssd with hdderase 3.3 in ide compatibility mode

          - set back ahci mode in bios

          - created only one primary ntfs partition aligned with an offset of 128kb

          - installed windows 7 x64

I did that more than a week ago and since then the ssd has been working flawlessy.

I hope it can help you.

Tks. for your reply, did all those stepts except:

created only one primary ntfs partition aligned with an offset of 128kb

could you please further clarify, Windows makes a separate 100mb part (which I believe is the recovery part)

en allocates approx. 74.00 for Windows.

how and where do you proceed to create the above?

for the time being I installed the 32bits version of W7 and this is very stable.

            kind regards,

I followed this post: http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=326656&postcount=3 to create only one primary partition aligned with an offset of 128kb.

Those instructions make reference to windows vista but it's the same for windows 7. It's possible to use the windows 7 installation dvd or the recovery disk.

Anyway, after having followed those steps (but setting an offset of 128kb), I rebooted with the windows 7 x64 installation dvd, selecting NTFS as file system for the created partition and choosing the quick format option, before proceding with the installation.

I didn't let the installer make modification to the partition scheme otherwise I would have lost the alignment.

However if you're stable with your current configuration, I suggest you wait until Intel comes up with a new firmware revision.

              Regards,

Hi, did all the stepts installed W7 64bits but after I switched of my PC and restarted

I again got Bootmgr missing and the install had vashished.

when I re-booted from my Western Digital HD de SSD disk was empty and needed

                to be formatted again.

this sdd is dryving me crazy, 32bit install good, 64bits Big problems.

today I'm returning the ssd to the retailer, who will test the SSD.

                  Sorry to hear that.

I hoped that what worked for me could work for others too.

                  Kind regards,

SSD replaced, by a brand new one with the old firmware.

just completed installing Windows 7 Premium 64 bits, so far no problems.
