game incompatibility on intel nuc with iris 6100 graphics

Hello,

i'm the owner of a intel nuc5i7RYH with iris graphics 6100.

I'm trying to play the game lord of the rings - the battle for middle earth 2 but it won't boot.

I get a load screen but after switching screen to the game i get an error that the program is not working anymore.

I googled alot but did not find answers about intel iris graphics and compatibility with old games.

I use windows 10 and tried compatibility modes and run as admin.

On my microsoft surface pro with intel hd graphics 4000 and windows 10 it runs flawlessly.

Why is this not working? I'm expecting alot from this expensive nuc device. Is it a driver issue? i'm running the latest driver 10.18.15.4256.

Thanks in advance.

Hello ricardo-elst,

Just bear in mind that for this graphics version, these are the games compatible https://gameplay.intel.com/HardwareGames/84993/Intel-Core-i7-5557U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3-40-GHz/ Hardware Games, also there is a new graphics version available please go ahead and give it a try https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloads/eula/25274/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Production-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10?httpDown=https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25274/eng/win64_15407.4279.exe win64_15407.4279.exe

If the issue persists please sent us a snapshot of the issue.

Let me know your findings.

Regards,

Amy.

Hello,

thank you for the link.

I installed the driver but no luck with the game. I play it on my surface pro now.

But there's another problem since i'm using the nuc.

When i'm not using the pc for a while my display turns off. Sleeping or standbye mode are disabled.

When i return to my pc and press a key or touch my mouse the screen turns on but then the pc is not working well. sometimes there is a black screen with only my mousepointer or my desktop is showing but my shortcuts are gone. The Pc is slow and nearly responding. When i try to turn it off in windows 10 it's not responding. I have to press the power button 2 times and then windows is shutting down. Sometimes it takes an hour for this issue but sometimes this is happening after 15 minutes. I think it looks like the cpu is underclocked to save power consumption but it is not returning to full speed again.

Sometimes it is directly working when i turn it back on but sometimes i have to pull the power cable for a few seconds and then it is booting again.

I already tried a complete reinstall of the nuc with default bios settings and reinstalled windows in uefi mode with all latest drivers available (19-9-2015). I turned off ready mode technology and fast boot mode in bios and all sleeping mode or standbye timers in windows (except for turning off display).

I'm out of options here so i hope that you could help me with this.

Thanks in advance.

regards ricardo

Ricardo, can you please let us know the model of the NUC and memory sticks you're using ?

Have you tried testing your NUC with different memory sticks?

Amy.

Hi Amy,

I didn't changed memory sticks. i'm using only one slot with 8gb memory.

I copied and pasted some system info from system info app speccy.

I also use an external hdd usb 3.0 1.5tb. The hdd is going to sleep automatically and when i need it you hear it starting.

But when the problem show up, the external hdd is not starting somehow. I don't know if it is neccessary info but it's kinda weird.

Hi Amy,

I searched for intel speedstep technology but i didn't find it in the bios.

But i searched for other options and found something.

I disabled wake from s3, wake from s4 and disabled usb s4/s5 power.

After that my booting time was significantly faster. Before it was waiting for my external hdd to wake up.

Now my external hdd is waking up when i'm already in windows.

I'm testing it for a few days now and let you know my findings.
