    Galileo board wont blink

I just got my Galileo board today (rev 1). I connected the power cable, micro-USB (client) cable and set up the Arduino IDE. Upon uploading the blink sketch, I don't see anything happen. I tried rebooting the board multiple times. At this point I hadn't attached an SD card yet (is it required?). Afterwards, I obtained an SD card and copied over the contents of SD-Card linux image. This didn't do anything either.

All I see are two green LEDs and an orange light on the ethernet port. I don't have a serial cable.

      What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: The Arduino IDE log does say Transfer complete at the end
