Dell R420

I have a Dell R420 that I am trying to get Windows 2008 R2 to install on a P3600 2TB drive. When I boot off the install disk and run through the Windows install, I get to the point to choose a drive to install Windows and I tells me I cannot install Windows at this location due to the drive not being enabled in the BIOS. I have checked all the settings and made sure that the PCIe bus is enabled for boot. I have reset to defaults to no avail, set to UEFI no luck.

One notable item is this system previously was running with an OCZ R4 series drive with no issues.

Anyone been able to get Windows to boot to these drives on this chassis?

Hello Rjmclan,

Please keep in mind that the Intel® SSD DC P3600 Series are PCIe, NVMe drives. They use different technology than your previous SSD, so the configuration that worked to boot the OCZ drive may not work with your new SSD.

Booting from the Intel® SSD DC P3600 Series was tested with current generation systems, and requires a system BIOS configured to enable uEFI* version 2.3.1, and support NVMe boot. We strongly advise you to contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support to confirm that your server meets the requirements mentioned in the http://downloadmirror.intel.com/23929/eng/Intel%20SSD%20Data%20Center%20Family%20for%20PCIe%20Instal... Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Family for PCIe* P3700, P3600 and P3500 Series – Installation Guide.

Also, in the following document you will be able to find some examples of the BIOS settings used for motherboards with Intel® Z97 Chipset and Intel® X99 Chipset:

We would like to remind you that the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23929/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Data-Center-Family-for-PCIe-... Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Family for PCIe Driver is required during the Windows installation process in order to use the Intel® SSD DC P3600 Series as boot device.
