error: Data submission - could not find time series with the name:

    dallanic

Hello guys, seems I need some help.

I am trying to send data to my IoT dashboard from my Edison.

My device is registred properly, and the default components are set ( as well as a new one called "pression" ) :

      # iotkit-admin catalog

2015-08-24T10:26:58.066Z - info: Starting Catalog Retrieving

      2015-08-24T10:26:59.852Z - info: Comp:  humidity.v1.0   humidity   sensor

      2015-08-24T10:26:59.856Z - info: Comp:  powerswitch.v1.0   powerswitch   actuator

      2015-08-24T10:26:59.857Z - info: Comp:  pression.v1.0   pression   sensor

      2015-08-24T10:26:59.858Z - info: Comp:  temperature.v1.0   temperature   sensor

      2015-08-24T10:26:59.862Z - info: # of Component @ Catalog :  4

When I try to send data using commande line, I got an error :

      # iotkit-admin observation temperature 26.3

      2015-08-24T10:31:34.091Z - info: Submitting:  n=temperature, v=26.3

2015-08-24T10:31:34.122Z - error: Data submission - could not find time series with the name: temperature.

2015-08-24T10:31:34.126Z - info: Observation Sent true

Is there a way to handle such error ? Is this related to my time setup ( I switched to Europe/Paris local zone ) ?

      # timedatectl status

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.

          Hi,

I’ve never seen this error before. When you assign a variable name such as temperature and a number such as 26.3 in this case, the agent converts “temperature” to the component (time series) ID. How did you set the temperature and 26.3 values? Did you add them using the format described here https://github.com/enableiot/iotkit-samples ?

What version are you running? Make sure you are running the latest one

If you installed the Agent globally using NPM or if it came pre-installed

          npm update -g iotkit-agent

If you installed locally using NPM

          npm update iotkit-agent

(from within your local node_modules directory)

If you initially installed locally using Git

          git stash
          git pull
          npm -d install

            Hello Sergio,

            Thanks for your reply.

            I was using the pre-installed version ( 1.7.0 ). So I updated it to latest ( 1.8.2 ) like you advised me ( npm update -g iotkit-agent ).

            # iotkit-admin -V

            1.8.2

After the update, I needed to reactivate my device, and restarted the agent. The  "iotkit-admin catalog" worked fine.

For my test I am using a simple command line :

            iotkit-admin observation temperature 26.3

And I still get the error message :

            2015-08-25T06:25:41.850Z - info: Submitting:  n=temperature, v=26.3

2015-08-25T06:25:41.881Z - error: Data submission - could not find time series with the name: temperature.

2015-08-25T06:25:41.885Z - info: Observation Sent true

              Hi,

              I just did this :

              # iotkit-admin register temp temperature.v1.0

              and it works now :

              # iotkit-admin observation temp 21

              2015-08-25T07:03:52.788Z - info: Submitting:  n=temp, v=21

              2015-08-25T07:03:54.275Z - info: Response received:  response=none detail, status=0

              2015-08-25T07:03:54.279Z - info: Observation Sent response=none detail, status=0

Not sure what to think about that. But finally it worked. Thanks for all help

                I am having similar problems

                when I use

                root@galileo:/# iotkit-admin observation temp 100.99

                2015-08-26T20:35:05.141Z - info: Submitting:  n=temp, v=100.99

                2015-08-26T20:35:09.219Z - info: Response received:  response=none detail, status=0

                2015-08-26T20:35:09.257Z - info: Observation Sent response=none detail, status=0

                it works

but when I try to run the samples (SendObservation.c from the iotkit-samples-master)  it doesn't work

                root@galileo:/# systemctl status iotkit-agent -l

                  Hello,

I did not use C for sending data. I used a Python script and that worked fine.

Maybe you can try to register again your component "temp" and restart the iotkit-agent. That's what I did.

I assume running python would do the trick (since the command line worked for me as well)

                    re registering failed:

                    root@galileo:/media/card/Galileo_WiFi_Car-master#  iotkit-admin register temp temperature.v1.0

I was just trying to make the example work.

                    I don't understand the difference,

when I look at the agent logs:

                    cat /tmp/agent.log

                    {"n":"temp","v":"20.5","level":"info","message":"Submitting: ","timestamp":"2015-08-27T07:47:15.543Z"}

the first attempt using the command line (or pyrhon) looks exactly the same as the one coming from the excutable (Eclipse project) however the second one returns the error

I am also having this problem. Sending with iotkit-admin works fine, sending through UDP silently ignored, with "could not find time series with the name" error in the log !
