I am fairly new to programming with Python and Unix commands in general. I do know some c/++ ( not even sure what arduino is using). My question is where can I get info to learn more. Also my main issue is taking two separate systems a computer that can run Python, use usb cameras and other things then data is sent serially to an arduino for physical movement and sensors. This is where I want to learn how to combine these into the knowledge to use just an Edison or Galileo. I have gained knowledge about establishing an ssh connection to the Edison and explore the files, manipulate configuration files. If anybody could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. My creative thoughts are greatly held back because of my lack of skills in this area.
In Linux, you can use inter process communication, your python is a process in linux, you can have process running your C/C++ code. The communication can one direction or bidirectional.
For python, the python docs are pretty good, once you get the basics from the docs. You can seek out specific tutorial using those API in google.
There are multiple ways to do inter process communication. One of them is socket. I link one of those doc here. 17.2. socket — Low-level networking interface — Python 2.7.10 documentation
