The Mobile 915GM/GMS,910GMl chipset does not have graphics driver support for Windows 10. See the list of supported operating systems linked below: Graphics Drivers — Supported Operating Systems
Intel 915/910 chipset drivers have been unavailable since Windows 7 without system tweaks. I am also looking for ways to get native resolution of 1280x800 from a Mobile 915GM/GMS,910GMl chipset. Windows 10 designated its basic video driver to it and the only resolutions available are 800x600 and 1024x768. Has anyone found any compatible driver that can be tricked into working with the 915GM/GMS,910GMl chipset? Or, does anyone know of a way to make the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter work at 1280x800 (or another 16/10 ratio)?
I am by no means technically proficient but I did upgrade my older HP Compaq nc6220 to Windows 10 because of an inadvertent error on my part. The laptop received a failing grade from the Win 10 compatibility report because of the Intel drivers being incompatible. I resigned myself to installing Linux at some point in the future on this laptop and was thankful it lasted this long.
Last week however the Win 7 file system became corrupted (I'm going with that as the symptoms and context all matched the Microsoft support posts) and it was very much easier to reinstall the OS than to try every avenue open to resolve the issue with the built in tools. While reinstalling Win 7 I inadvertently messed up the Intel Graphics driver install. Before I was able to repair that error the Windows 10 compatibility report gave the laptop a clean bill for an upgrade.
To end a long story I ran the upgrade without a problem using the Microsoft Basic Video adapter and currently have my resolution set at 1280 x 1084 having changed it from the system recommended 1024 x 768. Not sure if this helps you but it seemed to me very much in line with your earlier questions.
Hello, yes the MS basic display driver can be tweaked for our custom resolutions. Check this: GitHub - ywjheart/basic_adapter_driver_modification: BasicAdapterDriver Modification
Probably we need to change boot to start win10 always with testmode ON to allow unassigned drivers, but that doesn't cause any performance impact.
I'm just not sure about accelleration capabilities. On win10 with the MS basic display driver on my 915GM, the youtube vídeos seem to have less quality than on win7.
But please test and let me know your feedback. For me win10 is much faster and more performant, but since the vídeo quality is worse I think I will rollback to win7.
