I would recommend trying some troubleshooting first before you conclude that the CPU is damaged.
Can you post more details about your system hardware configuration, for instance: Motherboard model and brand, Memory type, etc?
On the other hand, here is the warranty information for Intel processors: http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-020033.htm. Keep in mind that Intel warranty is not transferable.
