Intel Atom Z2760 GMA driver update for windows 10 - mixed messages from intel - please provide driver!

Dear Intel people- reg the problem::

Windpws10,"Driver availability for the graphics controller on the processor model Z2760"

I find it quite unprofessional and very frustrating that Intel communicates completely different messages via different media channels:

In this forum (see /message/320186# 320186 Intel Atom and Windows 10) you state development of the driver is not done by Intel - whereas via twitter Intel states that the driver developement is actually onggoing:

https://twitter.com/LeCoeurSec/status/626635024369119232 Kristijan on Twitter: "@IntelSupport Hi, hello. Just a quick question. Will Atom Z2760 ever support Windows 10 ( graphic…

"https://twitter.com/IntelSupport @IntelSupport Hi, hello. Just a quick question. Will Atom Z2760 ever support Windows 10 ( graphics medila accelerator in particular)? -

IntelSupport@IntelSupport https://twitter.com/IntelSupport/status/626644277100195840 30. Juli https://twitter.com/LeCoeurSec @LeCoeurSec Oh yes!! We will have it soon on our website. Pls feel free to ping us for any help.- AT"

Also, reg. ownership of the driver-update: The current windows 8.1 GMA driver is copyrighted by Intel (Version 9.14.3.1177) - how can you state that further development is owned by the device manufacturer, i.e. Samsung??

It is Intels responsibility to develop the GMA driver update, since Intel developed and copyrighted the 8.1 Version!

Pls respond with a throughly researched answer (i.e. pls no reference to a not updated compatibiltiy list, which does not even state Win 10 for the entire Atom Family, like in other answers like here: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034343.htm Graphics Drivers — Supported Operating Systems) - we all are waiting eagerly on this driver to be able to update our tablets properly to Win10.

I think you owe it to all the early adaptors, who bought the 1st available Intel Windows Tablet, so that they can use the intended update for their Tablets,

Thank you.

Heiner

I absolutely agree. I purchased a Samsung ATIV Smart PC XE500 at an exorbitant price for the performances that it offers. As early adopters of very expensive first-generation convertibles, Intel should definitely provide us with updated drivers for Windows 10.

As if it weren't enough, the Z2760 CPU has no Linux support, so we're stuck on the half-baked Windows 8.1, with no chance of running a different OS whatsoever.

I'm very disappointed. If Intel wants me to buy a new device, I will, but it won't be an Intel-powered one, that's for sure.

I agree as well. The Z2760 isn't even that old. You can still find devices for sale with the Z2760. I just bought my tablet with it less than a year ago.

Same situation for the users of Samsung Tab 3 ! (XE300TZC-[[K01US etc.]])

This machine is only three year old. It is crazy that you wouldn't give support anymore.

You will get sued if you don't.

You are absolutely correct! I have an HP Elitepad 900 G1 with that processor and was able to edit the reg to get it installed but my Bluetooth won't power up so the tablet is practically useless. Intel needs to move on this quickly or I'm quickly going to become an AMD lover............My tablet is critical to my job and I'm sick and tired of my technology only lasting 2-3 years tops due to manufactured obsolescence. It took a lot for me to invest the $1,300 into that device and all the peripherals I needed to do my job and deserve to be able to use it until its full depreciation. Move your butts Intel!!! I want my driver set yesterday already!!

Looks like we will be left with nothing

Perhaps we should gather all Z2760 owners on Facebook to show Intel how many of us needs their help?

"Perhaps we should gather all Z2760 owners on Facebook to show Intel how many of us needs their help?"

I think this is an excellent idea!!

Who from the people replying to this thread would be arrange this?

(I have a facebook account, but have to admid that I am not so Facebooksavy to generate a group aso...)

-> So: Who can start and get this Facebook thing arranged?

I will immediately support it - and I think this is the only way we can convince Intel to help us out (if at all - this forum thread is the best example: Intel did not even answer this thread. Which I find very impolite / unprofessional by the way....).

Same thing here - but as far as I can see this problem grows over the net.

"Same thing here - but as far as I can see this problem grows over the net. /thread/77701 Latest Version of Graphic Media Accelerator 3600 Series is not compatible with Windows 10

Simple Google Win10 & Z2760 - more and more disappointed people around the world :-("

You are absolutely correct.

However, I think thre is 1 important thing mixed up in many of the threads:

GMA3600 is NOT the GMA in the Z2760 (Atom Cloverview, platform Clover Trail).

Instead, GMA3600 is the GMA of older Atoms (Cedarview)

(Z2760 GMA has no specific number as far as I know - just 'GMA'

See table here: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034343.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034343.htm)

Therefor, some of the answers given by Intel in this forum and elsewhere are incorrect, when thy reference GMA3600 for Z2760.

Especially, when they state that it was designed for Win7 - which is not a correct statement for Z2760!!

-> Z2760 GMA was designed for Win8 and further (and not for Win7) - and therefor it is such a shame that it currently lacks Win10 support, which is the natural update of Win8

-> I still thing channeling all the visibility & requests to Intel via a facebook group is the best approach!

Who can get this started?

I suppose that the main problem we face really is that graphic part of the Atom Z2760 SoC is not really Intel product. As far as I know it is Power VR SGX 545. And this might be the problem... Perhaps due to licensing agreements Intel is not allowed to prepare new driver? I just do not understand why they al tret us like idiots and do not state things clearly. Why they will not or can not present new driver for us.

Also.. considering price of our devices, how old they are, and that in theory they should be more than capable to run new W10 if they could run W8/8.1 a simple statement - "Sorry - you have spent so much cash on a more fancy netbook that is dead end" would be nicer than what we get now.

My only thought is that this is price for weak AMD. If PC/ Win tablets & hybrids market would be more equally divided Intel would not treat us this way. After all we could buy next device with AMD hardware. But since we can not.... Why would they care?

Regarding GMA model number you might be right, however I don't think this are really two completely different designs: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-GMA-3600.60198.0.html Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3600 - NotebookCheck.net Tech

In my opinion you guys are taking the wrong road here. Intel won't develop new drivers, they said this, it's done.

But it's not entirely Intels fault that the Windows 8.1 Drivers doesn't work correctly in Windows 10. This is more a problem Microsoft created than Intel. Microsoft says that WDDM 1.2 Drivers are compatible with Windows 10. It seems like thats not entirely true. Also with Windows 10 around Microsoft is the one offering the upgrade not your device manufacturer, so I would suggest get some attion from people like Joe Belfiore and Gabe Aul on twitter. Post those things in the Windows Feedback app (which is preinstalled on EVERY Windows 10 installation) and also post it on http://windows.uservoice.com/ http://windows.uservoice.com

Intel won't supply drivers for other platforms aswell, the only difference is, that most Windows 8 / 8.1 drivers will work.

Reg. 'Insignificant's feedback:

"Intel won't develop new drivers, they said this, it's done."

This is not entirely correct - as stated in the beginning, Intel stated on Twitter that the driver is in the works. Via other channels (i.e. here) they state they don't. And in many threads where they state that they won't develop a win10 driver, they reference GMA3600, which is not even the Z2760 Atom Clovertrail GMA....).

So; I still hold them to their word on Twitter, unless they clearly state that that was a miscommunication.

Reg. 'galtom's feedback:

'main problem we face really is that graphic part of the Atom Z2760 SoC is not really Intel product. As far as I know it is Power VR SGX 545'

I am simple minded: From whomever they bought / licensed the GMA part of theZ2760 Atom SoC - the Win8.1 GMA driver is copyrighted by Intel, so I think talking to Intels as the 1st point of contact makes still sense and I still hold them responsible as one of the key players in this mess.

And reg. 'I just do not understand why they al treat us like idiots and do not state things clearly.'

I couldn't agree more!

Involving other channels, i.e. Microsoft and others is still a good idea, but I won't let Intel off the hook - they even didn't give any feedback to this thread so far!

I for example contacted in parallel journalists from Heise, a well respected german IT magazine, explained them the situation pointed them to this thread and hope to get them involved as well. I think this is a topic of general interest....and Intel hopefully responds to journalists better then 'just some insignificant end users' like us....

I am stubborn and I hate built-in / planned obsolescence, which this looks a lot like to me.. And Intel is one of the main player in this case.

I won't let this go.

Hi guys,

I'm on the same boat as you are with the Z2760. Just letting you know the latest news.

Today someone at Intel updated their graphics/OS compatibility page at http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034343.htm Graphics Drivers — Supported Operating Systems

However, I asked them on Twitter about it and this was their response:

The information is misleading everywhere, as you can see.

I hope we get our driver update at the end, because version 9.14.3.1177 is working pretty well on Windows 10, just a few bugs to fix.

Best,

C.

forced the upgrade on my atom z2700 asus vivotab smart using the following

http://www.myce.com/news/registry-hack-allows-installing-windows-10-on-atom-based-windows-8-tablets-76968/ http://www.myce.com/news/registry-hack-allows-installing-windows-10-on-atom-based-windows-8-tablets-76968/

i agree that is unbelievable that intel/microsoft could be so cavalier in selling so many windows 8 products without any upgrade plans. very bad for their reputations.

my 7 year old dell desktop has gone from vista to windows 7 to windows 10 with no problems.

I tried to force the upgrade too, but it's useless since the old drivers are not suitable for Windows 10. Windows 8.1 is the only choice at the moment.

Hi,

I have a Dell Latitude 10 that has an Intel Z2760. I've upgraded to Windows 10 and I'm having some display issues. In some apps, and this includes the new Microsoft Edge browser, parts of the UI do not load correctly. The are either missing, or the wrong colour which makes them impossible to read. When I uninstall the Graphic Media Accelerator driver, the bug goes away. However without a proper display driver, the graphic performance is very low. On this website http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034343.htm Graphics Drivers — Supported Operating Systems Intel says that the Z2700 series is supported in Windows 10. Can you please update the display drivers? Thank you.

I feel almost frustrated. In past few weeks we got absolutely contradictory information from Intel reps and official Intel site.

Somebody from Intel, could you be so kind to finally confirm with a engineering dep: wether we are finally getting an updated to Windows 10 graphics driver for GMA on Atom Z2700 Clovertrail processors (in fact the only one - Z2760) or not. What is the cause of this misinformation?
