Colossus Failure of HDMI. Wheres my Audio? My Video crashes too!

Hello Everyone. I have come to my wits end and I hope this is my final stop. I have had this issue for the past five months and cannot resolve the problem myself, and it actually got worse recently. I will only give you my main issues, but there are plenty of minor as well. I believe it all stems from the HDMI output to by Sony A/V receiver. I have some significant driver or codec or something conflicts.

This happens 100% of the time.

I use my computer as HTPC. It is a PVR (using NextPVR; recently migrated from WMC due to download guide issues). I also stream from internet (Netflix, YouTube, NFL GamePass, etc.). I have a Colossus HD capture card from my Sat box. I use component and S/PDIF. From there, I send it via HDMI to my SONY STR-DH800. The A/V pushes out on HDMI signal to my TV. Other inputs to my A/V are PlayStation, DVD, and Xbox. All components have Dolby 5.1 sound - except my computer. I can only get 2 Channel. Since the day I upgraded to Win 7 in March.

The MAIN issue (other than never getting any surround sound from the HTPC) is when I exit NextPVR and use any other device (e.g., stream on Internet or even watch a Windows Media Center old TV program on Media Player) the playback is fine. But, when I return to NextPVR, the audio is gone and the video capture is unwatchable. This happens 100% of the time. My fix? Usually I uninstall all the drivers and codecs; 5-6 times in different orders until I get it back to functioning just for NextPVR. I have an very unstable system, as you can see. It does not function as a HTPC, just a PVR - such a waste of money and my time troubleshooting.

I have posted and communicated on Windows, Hauppauge, and NextPVR forums. I talk to their support, but no one has solved my problem. I even installed a different sound card (all that did was totally crash my system and it was unusable). That lands me here as my final hope. Please Help and thanks in advance!!!

Included in this update are screenshots of the device manager and sound control. I have re-installed the latest drivers but it does not look like the HDMI or optical input is properly appearing.

Again, thank you kindly for taking the time to view my issue. If you have any input, please do reply as you are definitely my only hope (I am beyond going insane and cannot figure this out).

Thanks.

No Change. Same issues.

Although I when I tried to download the Lenovo VGA driver it said it was older than the Intel, so I chose not to overwrite it. Correct?

Stupid question. What does the Intel Audio driver even do?

If I disable my Realtek device I get no audio in recording devices and my playback devices are not functioning properly. Also, for what it is worth, the "connection" is completely wrong. It should be optical and it shows some other "jack." In playback, I can hit the Surround 5.1 button and sounds independently go through those speakers but when I play a file or watch streaming content it is only stereo front two speakers. The Lenovo sound program shows only line in jacks, no HDMI out or optical in. It is completely wrong.

In my rather less than computer technical experience, I believe these audio issues are affecting my video capture. Am I crazy? I am starting to feel crazy after debugging this for the past 5 months.

OMG, please help me. And thank you for responding!

UPDATE (two hours later): Lost driver completely and could not watch TV via HDMI Had to connect via VGA cable and restore to earlier time. Something is seriously wrong with handshaking of video and audio on this computer. Please, Please help. !

The Realtek* device is usually for analog audio mostly while Intel® Display Audio is for digital through HDMI or DP (depending on the available ports).

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034574.htm Uninstall your current Intel(R) HD Graphics driver and try the one from Lenovo* or the other one if have not tried it yet.

Thank you for taking the time to answer and to give me a better understanding.

But I must admit, now I am even more confused. My Lenovo came stock with HDMI in/out jacks only - nothing else. So why would they provide an analog audio program like RealTek? None of this makes any sense to me, And with Lenovo tech support will not responding to my requests, it really frustrates me. Again, thank you for the help. I will attempt to remove the intel driver, but last time I completely lost video and had to restore to an earlier time. Needless to say, I am a bit worried to do it again.

Hello acemib,

It is unfortunate that you have this issue but have been discussing your case and we might have a solution related with the HDMI display and audio connection, so in this case what I would recommend is to install the driver that appears on the following link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloads/eula/24955/Test-Driver-HDMI-Display-Detection?httpDown=https://downloadmirror.intel.com/24955/a08/15.28.64bit_test.zip Intel® Download Center. It needs be installed by extracting the zip file and running the setup.exe file or by using the manual installation (through the Device Manager) method to install.

Let me know your findings.

Regards,

Amy.

Checking your system information I noticed that the Graphics included in your Lenovo H530 can be AMD Radeon™ HD 8570 2GB or NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 635 2GB, before installing the Test Driver you have to make sure that the on board graphics options is enable, and if you are not familiar with that option I would recommend getting in contact with Lenovo Support.

If you still need assistance downloading the driver, here it the link so you can download the proper driver according to your system specifications https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24955 Intel® Download Center, and I also, would recommend performing a manual installation here are the instructions http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-033915.htm Graphics Drivers — How to Manually Install a Driver in Microsoft Windows 7*.

Let me know your findings.

Amy.

Amy,

Thank you for the additional response. However, I am not clear about your remarks. Further, Lenovo has not provided any guidance to me so that option is not available.

I have checked my BIOS and it says the video and audio are both enabled. Is this what you are noting? I am a bit shocked to hear I may have another graphics card - this is exytemely confusing.

Lastly, based upon the specs, is my Intel driver below? That is what I tried to download.

2nd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 3000/2000

15.28.64bit_test.zip- Installs the 64bit Test Intel® and HD Graphics Driver 64-bit version

thanks again

I performed a research on your case, I found a new BIOS version and new drivers, this might help to sort out this inconvenient, please go head and install them.

BIOS Update

Amy,

Thank you so kindly for continuing to research my matter. I see some of the updates I have already tried - and they failed. In particular, the BIOS and VGA. So, before I try again, I want to eliminate user error (call it newbie syndrome). i have a few simple questions first. Shall I perform the updates sequentially as you listed? Also, will I need to remove any drivers before installing the ones you have listed? Any other tips are appreciated as I seem to crash my system after these "updates" and I then need to restore to an earlier time. Thanks again!

Great, thanks again for the response. I only have one more question before I try all these steps. Do I need to uninstall the RealTek drivers? The reason I ask is they seem to be a large part of the conflict. I also read that they are primarily analog. As of now, it is not configured correctly anyway because the "jack" is not S/PDIF or RCA - it is some other wrong plug.

Argh.... One more question, sorry. Do need to restart after each install or can I do them sequentially and then a grand restart?

Yes, uninstall the RealTek drivers so that we can test your system without them.

It would be better if you restart your system after each update.

Here are my final results - it failed to work. Step by step:

BIOS update-

Service Driver: Open SC Manager Error: 5

Create file Error: 2

Unable to get bios driver handle

Chipset update-

seemed to work

Intel management Engine Driver update-

seemed to work

VGA driver update-

seemed to work

AMD DISCRETE VGA CARD DRIVER update-

Application Install: install package failure!

"other detected devices"

Nvidia Discrete VGA Card Driver update-

The NV12.DLL file can not be found

Some questions I have...

Why did try install AMD and NVIDIA drivers? Do I have them on my system?

Why don't I have any recording devices?

see below screenshots

I am at the end of the road here!! Why does this not work???

thanks again

Helloacemib,

Could you please confirm which recording devices(Microphone, etc) do you have attached to your computer/Laptop?

You were recommended to try or test Nvidia* and AMD* drivers based on your original equipment manufacturer(OEM)'s possible configurations in order to confirm the manufacturer(Brand). of the Graphics device. Now we know you have Intel® HD Graphics on your computer.

I suggest testing high quality HDMI Cables and take into consideration Intel® recommends straight connections using high quality cables in order to ensure best performance.

Could you post here your https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/300887 Msinfo32 file and the http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009476.htm Graphics Drivers — Intel® Graphics Driver Report

Caesar,

Thanks for responding. It has been a while since anyone has provided me some support, but nothing has changed. Other than I have completely given up on any sound reliability whatsoever. I am simply inputting RCA analog now and getting 44 PCM - and the video still freezes.

You asked what type of recording devices I have connected. Nothing. Except the internal Colossus card.

You have suggested using high quality HDMI cables. I am. Plus, what does that have to do with recordings? Input has always been component with SPDIF (now RCA).

Thank you for providing me two new links for troubleshooting this issue. Attached is the Intel Driver Report. I have not attached the Msinfo32 details because I need a bit more specifics on what you want. Please walk me through this program/file a little more.

Much appreciate you time!

Blake

Hello acemib,

I noticed in the report the driver for your monitor(s)/TV displays "Generic PnP Monitor" which means that driver is missing.

In this particular case let's begin by searching for the latest updated driver from TV/Monitor manufacturers' website.

You could also check if you have the latest available Graphics driver here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81501/Intel-HD-Graphics-2500-for-3rd-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors Downloads for Intel® HD Graphics 2500 for 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors or https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ Intel® Download Center

Please post your findings.

Regards,

Caesar B.
