It was a good idea of yours to also post a screenshot. However, it does not show me if you have installed the Intel Display Audio driver. Could you tell me if "Intel Display Audio" appears in your device manager and on the General tab of your Onkyo HT-R693 output device?
When I installed graphic driver, it also installed intel display audio automatically, and i saw Intel Display Audio appeared in my device manager, but no passthrough DTS-HD and TrueHD.
Today, I tried to clean install Windows 10. It is also no passthrough DTS-HD and TrueHD.
I read kodi wiki Windows audio - Kodi. It says about Intel GPU that "To support HD Audio on Windows the Intel Management Engine Interface driver must be installed, it's this driver that provides the HDCP DRM necessary for the HD Audio formats to works. If this driver is not installed then the HD formats will be missing from the Supported Formats tab". so I found Intel Management Engine driver on Intel website but no driver that match and can be installed in my device.
The picture below shows my Intel Display audio driver on Windows 10
I believe you need to install Intel Trusted Execution Engine (TXE) drivers and make sure it's enabled in the BIOS. TXE is what used to be called Intel Management Engine.
I did try your suggestion, but there is also no TrueHD and DTS-HD bitstreaming audio.
Now, I am using OpenELEC installed in a usb drive to watch films and it works perfectly.
That's probably one of the numerous Kodi issues. I never got passthrough to work on Kodi.
On windows any decent player using e.g. Lav filters will do passthrough nicely. I personally have used mpc-hc and potplayer to verify this on my Nuc5.
Yamcenutzer, what nuc5 you have used?
I don't think there's a difference in the types ryc, ryb, ryh, as long as it is a nuc5i5/3?
I dunno about the celeron types though, they seem to be completely different.
I have tested my NUC5CPYH with Windows 10 64 bit today.
Intel® TXE: Intel® Trusted Execution Engine driver 188.8.131.523 installed : Yes
Intel® Display Audio Driver installed : Yes
Bios trusted enabled : Yes
Showing Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD supported on Playback device properties : NO
Bitstreaming Dolby TrueHD on Kodi : NO
Bitstreaming DTS-HD on Kodi : NO
Bitstreaming Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD on OpenELEC : YES
These are a limit of this NUC model?
Intel dose not say NUC5CPYH dose support TrueHD and DTS-HD in its Technical Product Specification like other NUC5 models.
NUC5CPYH Technical Product Specification
NUC5i5RYH (kit), NUC5i5RYK (kit), NUC5i3RYH (kit), NUC5i3RYK (kit) Technical Product Specification
I'm starting to think that the Technical Product Specification from Intel is just marketing.
This also happened with Baytrail and continues with Braswell.
What do you mean?
Intel technical product specification does not say that HD Audio is supported for NUC5CPYH and it appears that that is the case, at least when it comes to Windows.
As this works ok in OpenELEC/Linux this means that the hardware is capable of TrueHD/DTS-HD bitstreaming, but Intel has chosen not to implement this in the audio drivers for Windows. But at least they're not claiming that it is supported and then not offering the support...
If that's the case the Technical Specification should have a note about that.
The technical specification say that the HD Audio is supported by HDMI interface, but doesn't give a word about the drivers.
If only works under Linux and not in Windows, that info should be in the technical specification.
Did you notice that the quote above was from the technical product specification of another NUC model, not the Braswell NUC that we're talking?
You're right. Sorry, my bad.
That info is for other models of NUC.
Still, is a strange that HD Audio doesn't work on Braswell in Windows.
For me (and for the complaints i have read, for other people too) this is a reason not to buy this product.
I agree with you, I'm not seeing any misleading by Intel here but it's lame if they will not offer HD audio bitstreaming for Windows as the hardware clearly is capable. Especially since the box would make such a good media box otherwise.
