Mixing E5-2687W CPU

Hi, I have a friend with a system that has a single E5-2687W CPU installed and is now wanting to install a second. However, seems as though the E5-2687W v3 is all that is currently available. I have looked at the Intel datasheets that mention the pre-reqs for CPUs to be mixed... but it's still not clear to me.

Does anyone know if these two CPUs will work together, or if I should find an older CPU to pair it with?

(I was really hoping Intel would have an online tool that just checked compatibility!)

Hi Apiecost,

The compatible processor list that you need should be provided with the motherboard information.

The E5-2687W v3 and the E5-2687W have a different socket and overall architecture is different and they cannot be used together.

You can here for the processor comparison. http://ark.intel.com/compare/64582,81909 http://ark.intel.com/compare/64582,81909
