I am also very interested in this question. My specs:
Core i7-920 @ stock clocks
12 GB RAM Triple Channel config
MSI 970 GTX Gaming 4G
Samsung 840 EVO 256GB + Samsung HDD
XFX 850W Pro Black Edition Full Modular
A LOT of people are sporting first gen core i7s... I hope we are not being artificially forgotten, since the CPUs and motherboards are still extremely capable.
Intel X58 boards have been Out of support since June 2013. For direct support, you would need to contact the manufacturer of you motherboards.
Windows 10* may still work just keep in mind that not all drivers will be available. you’ll have to try out wondows 10* and see how it works, you can post here your experiences and let other users know your findings.
Hello Hans, thanks for the heads up!
Pity with the end of support, seeing how awesome the first gen cores still are after 7 years!
Could you please point us to the latest inf update for the x58 chipset, since it does not appear to be supported in the general update utility?
Are there still Windows 8 drivers for X58? Those would work on Windows 10 (at least better chances than Windows 7's).
I shared my experience of upgrading to Windows 10 in this thread:
In summary, it may work but it is hard to tell. Windows updated my storage driver to version 13.2 but I lost the functionality of the console application. "Contacting my motherboard manufacturer?" Are you serious?
As far as the actual chipset drivers are concerned, everything appears to be working since upgrading from Windows 7. Yes, it's a shame the X58 support has ended. My old i7 system still runs circles around some of the latest dual core boards.
