Wireless 18.11 Drivers Win 8.1 64 Bit installer crash

I just downloaded the latest Intel Drivers via the Driver Update Utility. Anyway, the Wireless_18.11.0_s64.exe installer file crashes immediately after opening. Has anybody hit this yet? Any ideas on a workaround?

In this case, you may try installing the driver manually.

As first option you should contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support, since they may have updated drivers with customizations specific to your system.

If you would like to use the generic driver from Intel® Download Center, please check the list in the webpage ofhttps://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25138/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-8-1- Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Windows 8.1* and make sure your adapter is supported. Then download the file according to your OS version.

If you have Windows 8.1 32-bit and 8.1 64-bit:

DRIVERS ONLY: Wireless_18.11.0_De132.exe and Wireless_18.11.0_De164.exe

Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software (includes Drivers): Wireless_18.11.0_e132.exe and Wireless_18.11.0_e164.exe

If there are any further issues, please let us know the details of your system, PC brand and model, adapter model, current driver used, error message displayed, etc.

All of the 18.11.0 Proset Wireless Driver installer executables for 64 Bit Windows 8.1 do the same thing, it crashes right after starting. Other drivers such as the Bluetooth Driver set downloaded with the Intel Driver Update Utility 2.2 work just fine. This is an installer executable bug. I wish Intel would just provide us with a good old .inf mechanism or an MSI rather than their own wrapper.

- What is the make/model of the OEM laptop or desktop that you have?

- Did the wireless adapter come pre-installed in your computer?

No, the installer from the link provided does the same thing. See below:

Current Driver installed by prior with Intel Driver Software Update Utility 2.0 Is Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC-7260 v. 17.0.5.8 That's the current version

that's installed. The Intel Driver Software Update Utility 2.2 selected and downloaded the wireless_18.11.0_s64.exe which I can't see on the download site. It fails in the same way.

The screenshots you provided suggest an issue in the software installed on your computer that causes the new versions to fail the installation.

In this case, it is better to try a clean install of the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and drivers for Windows 8.1*:

1. Obtain the WiFi drivers from the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support since they may have customizations specific to your system. As second option, you can use the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25138/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-8-1- Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and drivers for Windows 8.1*, Wireless_18.11.0_e132.exe and Wireless_18.11.0_e164.exe depending on your OS version.

The links errors noted before should have been solved by now, so you can try downloading the files.

2. Go to Control Panel - Programs and Features and Uninstall "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software", if it is installed. When prompted, choose the option to "Discard settings".

3. In Control Panel - Device Manager - Network Adapters, right click on the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 and Uninstall it. Make sure you mark the option to "Delete the driver software for this device".

4. Reboot the PC or scan for hardware changes, check device manager again and if an older driver is detected and installed, repeat the actions to uninstall and delete it as well. Repeat this process until the OS does not allow deleting the driver, or until the controller shows as Unknown Device.

5. Install the Intel® Wireless driver. During the first steps of PROSet/Wireless installation, you can customize the installation and install all the 3 driver components.

I have a Windows 10 VM set up. I copied the e64.exe executable to that system then captured the contents of the expanded temp installation directory and moved that back to my Windows 8.1 system. The setup.exe crashed again on the 8.1 system, so I then installed the .MSI installer files from the data subdirectory, which worked fine. I have the 18.11.0.8 Wireless Driver, the Proset Management, Cloud Manager on the system working fine. As previously indicated the latest Bluetooth drivers installed fine so now I'm upgraded. I've rebooted the system fine, no issues it connects to WLANs just fine as well as Bluetooth devices.

It's regrettable that I had to use the .MSI files instead of the wrapper, but it works. If you'd like me to diagnose the setup.exe bug further I'll be happy to help but I've also done an sfc/scannow etc. No errors or problems with my installation. It's just odd that these wrappers are crashing.

This happened to me as well. I attempted to re-download, but the driver is now going to a 404 page instead of downloading, so maybe it got pulled.
