    Windows won't boot, F8 doesn't work

We have an Intel Compute Stick with Windows 8.1 connected to a Sony Bravia television. The stick is powered by the supplied power adapter.

After we successfully installed Windows and left it running for a day it all of sudden stopped working. We have no idea what happened. When we turned the TV on the next day we were greeted by a black screen.

It won't start Windows, we get the following error message:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause."

Pressing F8 during startup doesn't do anything, it just keeps showing that message. Starting Windows (recovery) from an usb-stick is impossible. Some usb-sticks get recognised but can't be boot from, some are not recognised at all.

      Any suggestions?
