the link is very interesting!
but it looks a little bit like a brain surgeon task.
Do you know if there is an antenna connector provided with the arduino breakout board?
You can purchase a version of the edison module module with out the built in antenna. (i.e. EDI2.SPOF.AL.S Intel | Mouser) then connect and external antenna via the ufl conenctor. The ufl connector is on the module, not the breakout board. You can connect directly to a ufl antenna or If you want you can use a ufl to sma pigtail to connect to a standard SMA antenna.
thank you for your answer.
i looked at the pictures of the different edison versions. all of them are showing a connector looking like the external ufl connector.
that is a little bit confusing...

If you read the description, some say "Internal Antenna" and some say "External Antenna". Yes all of the units have a ufl connector, but for the "Internal Antenna" version this is used for testing. You want the "External antenna" version. I assume the "Wearable Version" is slightly lower power to meat FCC SAR requirements, so for your application I don't think you want these. Therefore the version you want is the EDI2.SPOF.AL.S (System-On-Modules - SOM Edison Module IoT External Antenna).
P.S. Be careful about using the pics, they often just use one pic for the whole family.
