Intel cannot prevent users from doing what they want with their Intel Compute Sticks but before installing any non-validated operating system, I would recommend that you check the following web site: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-035602.htm

did you use a generic kernel or one with the Baytrail-T patches?
there's been a fair amount of effort to get Linux to run on the Asus T100TA which has a somewhat similar architecture, so it might be worth looking at what they've achieved.

I didn't modify the line in this kernel as the ICS doesn't hang like the T100 appears to. I can include it in the future and many thanks for raising it.

I have been trying to create a live image with Xubuntu 15.4 and the latest 4.1/4.0.6 kernel for a few days now... but have been unsuccessful so far...
Apparently the 4.1 release has optimizations for Baytrail CPUs ... even the RPMB fix was committed into kernel version 4.0.4..

Have you tried the latest 4.1 kernel... Does it fix audio issues with out patches?

I tried your ISO on my device (Ainol Mini PC - z3735f with RTL8723BS Wifi & BT) and Wifi didn't work! I even tried installing hadess/rtl8723bs module/driver but still no use.
After installing that module on stock 15.04 ... WiFi works on my device. I believe Xubuntu 15.04 to be the best distribution to customize for MiniPCs.

Some how after upgrading the kernel and creating the ISO... the ISO doesn't boot... Fails with error - AuFS - unable to mount root fs - after initramfs. Any ideas?
Are you interesting in creating anything on these lines?

My 'ISO' is specifically only for the ICS which is why wifi is not working on your device. Elsewhere I've posted 'ISO's for other devices but this one was to help ICS users.

I've updated the 'ISO' with the latest patched Utopic kernel (same URL as before: ubuntu-14.10-desktop-linuxium-ics.iso - Google Drive).
Also I compiled the latest available Ubuntu kernel (4.1.0) from the 'unstable' git repo and added it to the Wily Werewolf daily build from the 26th June and created a 'LiveCD' that you can try by booting from a USB after downloading from https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B99O3A0dDe67ZGdNZTlOUFRhYkE and installing using 'Rufus' (Windows) or 'dd' (Linux). It is an 'as is' build so no wifi or sound etc. but may be of interest to some as it includes 'the wealth of performance and power efficiency improvements committed for Intel’s Cherry Trail and Bay Trail chips. SoCs and devices, such as the Intel Compute Stick' (quote: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2015/06/linux-4-1-kernel-new-features).

Fantastic! Will try it on my mini pc as soon as the download finishes! The hdmi-sound patch would have made this build much more useful. Nevertheless, thanks a lot for making this image available. I almost gave up on using linux on my mini-pc :-)

I've just updated the 'ISO' with bluetooth - the last part of the puzzle with Ubuntu!
