The Edison module has been designed for indoor usage however, according to the specs of the onboard antenna, it can work in those 5GHz channels (100 -140) for outdoor usage. You have to be aware that there could be some restrictions about the outdoor channels usage, so you should check if there is any kind of restriction in your region.
Thank you for your reply.
I tried to use Intel Edison with W56 channels of 5GHz Wi-fi ,which router is "Buffalo WHR-1166DHP" and the setting is "5GHz outdoor mode",
and the network communication between Edison and the router(WHR-1166DHP) couldn't be established.
( It could be established if the setting of router is "5GHz indoor mode".)
I wonder if any extra settings are needed for Edison or not.
Do you know if the extra setting on Edison is needed when using it with W56 channels ?
Hello hirohiro ,
I've been investigating about the Edison outdoor usage. Since Edison has been designed for indoors only, 5GHz is supported for indoor channels only. Even though the onboard antenna has the required specs, the Edison itself is designed and oriented for indoors applications.
