Computer wont start after replacing CPU

I mistakenly thought that a Core 2 Duo E7600 would work in my DG965RY board. I put the old chip ( Pentium 4 640) back in, added new heat sink compound, plugged everything back in, turned the power on and nothing happened. After soft starting it, the fans would come on and turn off repeatedly. I tested my Power supply and it's working. I have no idea what I did wrong or how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Well i hope that the board is still in working conditions now. My guess is that due to voltage change for the CPU, it may have damaged the board.

As you can see from this http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=27480,41495, link, both cpu dont have the same VID.

Anyway, let's try to make your board alive again if possible.

- CMOS clear by removing the RTC battery and power cable for 10/15 mins.

- Try to recover the board bios using the http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-023360.htm Recovery Method.

- Try recovery thru CD, once the recovery method is done.

- If it still does not boot up, leave the bios jumper in configuration mode. It should boot up in BIOS directly.

Remove the memory to see if there is any beeps.

Other than this, i dont have any suggestions. :-(

All the best,

Kind Regards,

Aryan.
