Display fails after disconnecting external monitor?

Hi, I have a eee pc 900HA with the i945GSE chipset, running windows XP.

I have a problem that started occuring a few months ago, where if I switch the display back to the netbook, and disconnect the external monitor, every now and then, the screen flashes black for <1 second. Then, after maybe an hour or so, the display goes completely black (backlight still on), and the only way to restore it to normal is to forcefully restart. I don't get any error messages after the restart, and I believe this is a problem with the graphics driver due to the fact the computer is still functional after the display dies, I just can't see anything.

Is there anyone else with this problem? I have all the latest drivers etc.
