In much the same way as RAID installing Matrix Storage Manager installs the newest AHCI driver.
Is it not possible to load the Intel AHCI driver when installing Windows 7? Is there a way to install Intel AHCI driver without Intel Matrix Storage Manager?
Yes you can download the 64-bit/32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility which are drivers for RAID/AHCI and put the files on Floppy or USB and ask Windows when installing to use these drivers.
But that link for 64-bit floppy says for RAID. The Intel Matrix Storage Manager inludes AHCI but loading that during OS install has me totally confused. The 64-bit floppy only says for RAID so that also has me confused as all I need is AHCI.
It has AHCI drivers too if you look at the files you get like:
I read somewhere on Intel's site the iaStor.sys is for AHCI, and that is what really confuses me. You would think that iaAHCI.inf is the one to pick, but maybe not. So, if I use that 64-bit floppy, which driver do I select for 64-bit OS to pre-install for AHCI?
This is what I found in the readme to verify AHCI installation:
6.1b Systems Configured for AHCI Mode:
1. On the Start menu:
1a. For Windows* XP or later operating systems,
select Control Panel.
2. Open the 'System' applet (you may first
have to select 'Switch to Classic View').
3. Select the 'Hardware' tab in Windows* XP or Windows*
4. Select the 'Device Manager' button.
5. Expand the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' entry.
6. Right-click on Intel(R) SATA AHCI Controller.
7. Select 'Properties'.
8. Select the 'Driver' tab.
9. Select the 'Driver Details' button.
10. If the 'iaStor.sys' file is displayed, the installation

Intel(R) ICH9R/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller
That is my AHCI controller. The floppy does not have that on it, the floppy has iaAHCI.inf, iaStor.inf, iaStor, sys, etc.
What do I select from the floppy to pre-install?
Send me a pic or tell me whats listed.
You can see all the above in the download: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=17884&lang=eng
I have seen a few people say pre-installing in Windows 7 is a problem, so maybe updating the AHCI driver after Windows 7 is a better idea. Do you know how to update the AHCI after Windows 7 installation? Windows 7 does inlcude an AHCI driver during installation, but it is a microsoft driver, not Intel.
Are all these files on Floppy or USB. When you do a custom install of windows you load the drivers from Floppy or USB if you need to select .inf use iaAHCI.inf then select Intel(R) ICH9R/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller.
All those files would be on a floppy. I have Intel(R) ICH9R/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller installed now and the driver is iaStor.sys. Are you sure the choice from that list would be iaAHCI.inf?

iaStor.sys IS the AHCI driver ALSO.
There must be some reason why they both are drivers for AHCI. Perhaps one is both RAID and AHCI and the other is just for AHCI?
