Trouble with Edison and Ubuntu LTS 14.04 LTS

    emwaves

      My system info:

      Linux pp001 3.16.0-34-generic #47~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 10 17:49:16 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I am having some trouble connecting Edison to my Ubuntu LTS 14.04 LTS machine using the two micro-USB cable approach as documented on Intel's website. The board works fine with Windows 8.1 so I know it is functional.

Apparently another user had similar issue below for 14.10 Ubuntu but the conclusion in that issue was that it should be fine with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (which is what I have). The issue referenced below pointed to an incorrect setting in  /boot/config* file with respect to CONFIG_USB_OTG=y entry. My system also shows this same setting as well.

cannot use USB in Ubuntu 14.10 w/ Edision

I am not sure how to proceed here? The above referenced issue concluded Edison should work fine with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS but mine does not. The Intel Arduino IDE only shows ttyUSB0 port which when selected before hitting upload button times out and transfer is incomplete. I expect the IDE to show ttyACMx port as well.

Here is the log from 'dmesg' command for more debug:
