Wireless analog control (for an rc car)

I'm a beginner, I've only worked a little with the arduino before but I never got far, and I got the Edison from my father after he went to IDF last autumn.

What I'm trying to do is to communicate with the Edison directly to control a rc car from my computer. My problem is that I want analog control over it using a steering wheel or ps3 controller and I can't come up with a solution.

I have seen others do similar things with an xbee shields and arduinos but I was thinking that since the Edison has integrated Wi-Fi and bluetooth I can do it without a shield.

I have the edison with the arduino breakout board.
