Z97 CHIPSET + WINDOWS 8.1x64 + IRST v13.xx = ENABLES HDD ADVANCED POWER MANAGEMENT (APM)

    jrmpt

      Good day,

I've issues with an Asus Z97 board and hard drives. After installing the IRST v13.xx, the drives will enable APM and they start to make mechanical noises, due to the constant head park/unpark. Its clearly due to the intel drivers.

Z97 Chipset with a corsair ssd and 2 samsungs hard drives (HD502HJ, supports APM and HD501LJ, dont supports apm)

      Fresh windows installs

intel chipset drivers installed with -overall

      Results:

WINDOWS 7x64 SP1 with IRST v13.xx // The APM stay off, no click noises

Windows 8.1x64 with MS AHCI // APM off, no click noises

Windows 8.1x64 with IRST v13.xx // APM turns ON, the noise of the drive heads parking/unparking every 10 seconds starts on the HD502HJ

Windows 8.1x64 with forced install of IRST v12.xx // APM off, no click noises

This is clearly related with intel IRST v13.xx driver, that turns APM ON). Please fix this.
