          Hello Smurfkiller,

The Model number and firmware version of the drive indicate it is a Lenovo OEM drive, this appears to be reason why Intel® SSD Pro Administrator Tool is not able to enable eDrive support on it.

We advise you to contact Lenovo Support for additional details and possible options to update firmware and use eDrive on this SSD. The OEM may have added customizations in the drive's firmware that do not allow the Intel generic tools to manage the drive.

In some cases, the OEMs have custom methods to update firmware on their drives; however, you might want to download Intel® Solid-State Drive Toolbox version 3.2.3 and try to update the firmware, in order to check if it works on your drive or not before contacting Lenovo.

Hi, I have the same issue on two Lenovo laptops that include this drive, what is the solution for enabling eDrive?

                Hello ACT_

To enable eDrive* on the Intel® SSD Pro 2500 Series, you need use Intel® SSD Pro Administrator Tool, running the application with administrator privileges. Then use the command prompt to activate eDrive* functionality. The detailed instructions are available in the following guide:

The Intel® SSD Pro 2500 Series Guide for Microsoft eDrive* Activation

Please try the steps mentioned in the document. If you encounter any issue, please provide details about it:

At which point of the process does it fail?

Did the system show you an error message?

Provide output or screenshot of the process (like in the original post)

Computer Model, Operating System, SSD model number.

We will need to get some additional details to confirm the reason for this condition.

Please check your private messages for further instructions.

I have tried to run a diskpart - clean procedure on the drive and am still not able to enable eDrive using a separate machine with the drive attached as a guest drive. at this point I suspect it's something to do with the firmware. The firmware update tool shows that the drive is already running the latest version.

Have you been able to resolve this issue? I'm trying to do the same on a Lenovo T450 with an intel Pro 2500 drive.

                          Hello PolishPaul,

If the drive was bought from Lenovo as part of the laptop, we advise you to contact Lenovo Support to obtain eDrive management tools.

We do not have the details of your SSD, however, if the firmware of the SSD is LTVi like the one from the previous drives in this thread, then this is a Lenovo drive.

OEM's like Lenovo incorporate customizations to their hardware and firmware, and you should contact them to enable security features like eDrive.

The Intel® SSD Pro Administrator Tool does not support enabling eDrive with OEM drives.

Just as I expected and I did contact Lenovo support that was LESS THAN helpful. They insisted that my model was Intel Pro 2400, which I don't believe exists.

I told them that I suspected that they have their own custom firmware on the drive and that they need to provide tools to enable this, but they said that they don't have any. I'm going around in circles with their support and this is driving me insane.

Is there a way to force the original FW onto this SSD? The Intel utility says its already up to date.

                              Hello PolishPaul,

Intel firmware can't be forced to OEM SSD's. OEM drives are manufactured by Intel for computer manufacturers according to their requirements, which often include customized firmware as in this case.

The Intel® Firmware Update Tool and Intel® SSD Toolbox work only for Intel branded drives and are not capable of applying firmware updates to OEM drives. These tools report the firmware LTVi is up to date because they do not contain any update for this type of drive.

We advise you to check back with Lenovo Support to obtain any firmware updates and eDrive support tools.
