For ideal performance, is it advisable to have 1GB of RAM in each slot ie.4GB in total. My logical thinking is that being a Quad processor, it will be better to allot RAM for each of the processor core for a better performance. Is this thinking OK?
It does not work like that..you be better off with 2x2GB.
Thank you PeterUK.
While using a Core2 Dual processor on Intel 945GNT motherboard, I was advised by the technical person to have total RAM of 4GB to be split into two ie. 2GBx2 and placed in slot0 and slot2 (with total four slots for DIMM DDR2 RAM. slot 0,1,2 and 3 in sequence) for better performance, being dual core processor. Now I thought the same logic applies to core2 Quad processor also. Is that right?

The 945GNT does not support 2x2GB (in some cases it can so long as the max ram supported is not exceeded) only 4x1GB for a max of 4GB the DG45ID supports upto 8GB so it will support 2x2GB.
But do go ahead with what ever you want as it will work either way.
