How to configure DDR2 RAM for Core 2 Quad processor motherboard?

I intend to purchase Intel DG45ID motherboard and Core 2 Quad processor Q8400. For this I am planning to have 4 GB of DDR2 800MHz RAM. There are 4 slots for RAM on the motherboard. For ideal performance, is it advisable to have 1GB of RAM in each slot ie.4GB in total. My logical thinking is that being a Quad processor, it will be better to allot RAM for each of the processor core for a better performance. Is this thinking OK? Or is that OK to have two 2GB in RAMs in just two slots. Is there any article related to this subject?
