First you need to copy and paste the file "package.json" in /home/root from: npm/package.json at master · npm/npm · GitHub
Then you have to run:
root@edison:~# npm install
When this process is done, you would be able to install the suggestions in the website with:
With those installed, you would be able run the examples and challenges.

Code school is a pay site -- about $35 U.S. a month but they have some free content as well.
Try the free level and see if you like it. You could sign up for a month ( like I did ) and take a bunch of courses then close the account.
