Have you already updated your image to the newest one? It can be found here Intel® Edison Boards and Compute Modules — Software Downloads . Have you already tried updating the mraa libraries, it can be done with
echo "src mraa-upm http://iotdk.intel.com/repos/1.1/intelgalactic" > /etc/opkg/mraa-upm.conf
opkg install libmraa0

Thanks for your reply. Ya I do have the latest image uploaded and mraa libraries updated. BTW I used the time.h kernel header to produce a timer interrupt and works like charm. I am working on interfacing the Sharp Memory Display with the Intel Edison and I'll keep posted when its done.
