    Galileo Gen 2 Boot Error

      Hi all,

      I get an error while booting my Galileo Gen 2 and I can´t upload scetches because my pc gets no com connection. I tryed flashing with the .cap and the .efi file. This didn´t throwed any errors but the boot error and the undetected com connection is still here.

      I also tried flashing with a .bin file and a galiprog. This failed because I think it was made for Gen 1.

      Should I buy a DediProg?

          Are you using an 2.0 USB port or 3.0 USB port? There are some issues while using the 3.0 and if you are using this port to interact with the board it could be causing the issue.

            I´m using an 2.0 port and my Gen 2 looked exactly like the pictures, even the firmware command looked the same, but my Galileo can´t be programmed via the com port because of the error you can see in the log.

                  I do not think so. DediProg will fix an internal SPI flash memory only. It means that it will fix from 1st bootlog line up to lines shown above.

                  Starting from boot lines below "[Initrd, addr=0xd7d0000, size=0x19d2a4]" all problems (very high probability) are related with SD card and Linux on it.

                   

                  Grub menu shows that your SD card was read by Galileo board. As well as Linux on SD cards.

                   

                  Your bootlog is similar to my board's log.

                  This is SD card Linux bug. It is not fixed yet. It may affect on USB connection.

                   

                  I think you need to check your IDE on PC.

                   

                  Did you install a driver from Galileo IDE folder? Do you have any unknown device on your PC? What OS on PC do you use?

                  What Galileo IDE (arduino-1.5.3-Intel.1.0.X) version do you use?

                   

                  BTW, arduino-1.5.3-Intel.1.0.3 does not work on PC (Win7) at all. I have no possibility to make a connection with a board.

                  Only arduino-1.5.3-Intel.1.0.4 allows to make a connection on my PC.

                    Is a Fat32 Format right?

                    I have a win7 x64 pc, but if you say linux is better for arduino, I have a Virtual machine.

                    I´m using 1.0.4 and there is no unknown device, I have all drivers, the pops up a warning that something is plugged in, but the device is broken, but it does not show up in the device manager.

                    How can I fix the boot of my Galileo?

                      there is no boot problem with your Galileo. The bootlog shown above speaks that SD card Linux is running.

                      The problem is related with USB connection between Galileo board client port and a computer.

                      Having no USB connection there is no way to upload a sketch.

                       

                      In your log I see no line like shown below:

                      I have tried to recheck SD card Linux 1.0.4 from http://downloadmirror.intel.com/24355/eng/SDCard.1.0.4.tar.bz2

                       

                      So, finally a result:

                       

                      1. SD card Linux 1.0.3 from Aug 19, 2014 - works correcly, there is a USB port to upload a sketch (tested by xbolshe)

                      2. SD card Linux 1.0.4 from Oct 16, 2014 - does not work like there is no USB port to upload a sketch (tested by )

                      3. SD card Linux 1.0.4 from Oct 16, 2014 (downloaded from http://downloadmirror.intel.com/24355/eng/SDCard.1.0.4.tar.bz2  on Feb 27, 2015) - works correcly, there is a USB port to upload a sketch, Gen1 and Gen2 (tested by xbolshe)

                       

                      BTW, SD card Linux 1.0.3 is located there:

                      I use the following connection scheme:

                       

                      [Galileo board Gen1 or Gen2, SD card Linux 1.0.3 or 1.0.4]-[micro-USB client port]-[micro-USB to USB-A cable]-[computer with USB 2.0 port]-[Win7 and arduino-1.5.3-Intel.1.0.4]

                       

                      What is your scheme? May you check a USB connection with a multimeter?

                       

                      PS: and you do not need to flash SPI memory, when GRUB works correctly. It will not help your problem with USB connection.

                        I have the same scheme, I use [Gen 2 1.0.4] - [usb port] - [micro to A] - [usb extention] (I dont hope that this will make this not working?!?) - [win 7 1.5.3 - 1.0.4]

                            After the "clanton login" message, are you able to log as root and use the Serial Console?

                                Are you getting the same result when you boot with and without the SD card?

                                Do you see something under "Other devices" in the Device Manager or there is nothing related to the Galileo in there?

                                  Is there a known bug with multiple Galileos Gen2 on one PC? Like, they have all the same COM port and everything crashes until you uninstall and reinstall the Galileo Com driver? So this solved my problem but I cant reinstall the driver every time that I want to plug in an additional Galileo. What am I doing wrong? I need to plug in more than 10 a day! And this is pretty nasty to do this every time! I tested it with about 12 other computers, from XP to Win8 and all the time the same error and after reinstalling it worked for the next Galileo, but as soon as I want to plug in the next, I have to reinstall the driver... Please help me :-/

                                    I did the test and connect two Galileo boards to a PC and I did not have the same result.

                                    Are you using a USB-HUB to connect the boards? If you do, have you tried to not use it to check if it works without the HUB?

                                    Another thing you can do is:

                                    Connect 1 Galileo and go to the Device Manager, select the Galileo under Ports and right click in it. Then go to Properties->Port Settings->Advanced in that window choose another port number. Then, connect another board and let us know if it works or if you are having the same result.
