i also are very angry about this mislead.
I do not know who to contact in Intel about this, but if the corporation does not supply the appropriate fix to make the board comply to the described specification quickly, I encourage all to approach their country's "Consumer Affairs" government body for a bit of leverage and write to all the PC magazines and forums they can to clarify the distorted meaning of their description.
You may be running into the same problem reported by other customers who did not see the Extended Desktop option and had narrowed it down to a third party application. Please visit this page: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-030721.htm to see if this is the problem you are running into.
If this is not the same problem, which operating system are you using?
I am using Vista 64 Ultimate edition. The options available are only Clone or Single. There are no errors produced and I have all the latest drivers. There is no additional software installed on the PC just the operating system. I found one message so far that also support my claim : http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20081201230624046&board_id=1&model=P5QPL-VM&page=1&SLanguage=en-us I quote: "Does anyone knows if ASUS P5QPL-VM supports
XP/VISTA Dual Display Extended Desktop?
(meaning two monitors connected to DVI/VGA/HDMI/Display Ports,
set up for different resolutions, different contents displayed)
I need to know if this motherboard can replace a similar Intel G41 based DG41TY
motherboard that fails supporting Dual Display Extended Desktop.
(The DG41TY using the Intel GMA X4500 driver only supports "Dual Display Clone"
(meaning two monitors connected to DVI/VGA/HDMI/Display Port,
set up for same/different resolutions, cloned desktop displayed)
Which BIOS version is on your board? We're unable to replicate problem on a DG41TY using Windows Vista* Ultimate 64-bit and latest graphics drivers and BIOS; we see the options for single, Intel(R) Dual Display Clone, and Extended Desktop.
If you are not using the latest BIOS version 0031, please try updating to see if problem is still there.
Instructions on how to check BIOS version is here:
Instructions to update BIOS are here:
Latest BIOS for DG41TY is available for downloaded here (select your operating system and BIOS download will be listed towards the top):
I was one bios update behind and did not download the latest as it did not mention the fix for extended display. Anyhow as suggested I put in the latest and it all works. This is good as it fixed the issue, and bad as it would have been nice to have the fix read me notes explicitly mention this. Thank you for mentioning this, I will now go ahead and build a few more PCs with this board !
i update bios and now everything is ok, thx
I have the DG41TY motherboard and have 2 montiors connected to it, but have no option to extend the desktop or run 2 montiors. I have installed the latest video driver and BIOS update. I am running XP Pro SP3. Does anyone have a fix for this issue other than putting in an additional video card?
