fixes like this suggested quite some time ago; have you checked the latest build? is it still not fixed?
Thanks for this suggestion. I will pass it to the appropriate team so they can review it.
It was looked at by the FW team too, who claimed that one didn't need root to flash. Is someone seeing otherwise? It was tracked as EDISON-2261, closed as 'Won't Fix'.
If someone is seeing a situation where root is required, can it be described here?
at least historically on Linux it just wouldn't flash at all when running NOT as root despite no warning nor error message been printed.
This issue caused me and others quite some time when we first tried to understand why nothing is flashed although according to flashall logs everything worked fine
Alright. Let's try it with the R2 beta. If it still exists, let's capture the use case and file a bug.
R2 BETA still has this issue.
The other change I suggested about adding a reboot after flashing the u-boot partitions has been applied, but the warning about not running as root has not been added.
The FW team's position is that there shouldn't be a warning, since root is not required to flash the board via flashall.
What I'm trying to find out from you is one of the following:
- There are certain cases where you do indeed need to run this as root, and therefore we should enforce this suggested check
- It doesn't matter if one runs this as root or not - i.e. the warning is purely cosmetic, as the output/result of both variations of the command are the same
Can you clarify which case is true for R2 beta release?
