Windows 10 Enterprise Preview

Has anyone been able to get multiple VLANs to work in the W10 previews?

I have tried multiple builds with the last 3 versions of Proset and can not enable the VLANs after creation.

I can create them as I do in 8.1 Pro, but I can not enable them.

I am using an 82579LM nic in a Lenovo Thinkcentre.

Hi CStarr,

Currenlty Intel PROSet software does not support Windows 10.

You may try disable and re-enable the VLAN interface see if this could be of some help.

I understand you are using an onboard NIC on Lenovo system, you can contact Lenovo to check with them the latest driver and software available.

thanks,

I understand that the current version of PROSet is not officially supported.

I am asking more how I can troubleshoot the issue so I can proceed with testing of the new Windows product.

I have no way to try to re-enable the VLANs as they will not enable when created.

Given the fact that Microsoft has announced the free upgrade for existing Windows 7,8,8.1 customers we are looking to test the product fully and cannot without VLAN support.

Is there a better place to post this question?

Based on the Windows 10 forums others are having similar issues and I was told to post the question over here as the common denominator is the Intel NIC.

Thanks

wb_intel,

with 20.1 it should be supported.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/de/download/25016/Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-10- Intel® Download-Center

However, i tested and failed. neither cmdlets from Powershell nor the ProSet util allows for Creation of VLANS !

once i downloded latest updates, i will pass windows build and error messages

I installed a fresh W7 and upgraded to 10Pro.

I have downloaded the latest Windows 10 driver and have the same issue as before.

I can create VLANs but can not enable them.

Hi CStarr,

Just to double check what is the latest driver version you downloaded? Is it PROSet 20.2 on this site https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25016/Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-10- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25016/Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-10-

Have you tried checking the driver from Lenovo* as it is recommended to use the driver from the system vendor.

I will try the 20.2 now.

I had installed the Lenovo ones, they do not support VLAN and get updated by w10 automatically

I did have the correct version.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it again and had the same issue.

I did notice that the disabled vlans will go enabled if you configure them and have them show up as disabled and do a reboot.

A reboot after the driver install did not work but a reboot after creating the vlans that I could not enable did.

So create your vlans and reboot and it should work.

This is different from the W8.1 version but I can live with it as long as I can create and enable my vlans.

I tested plenty of configs reboots forwards and backwards. I had a VLAN configured once. But it was Duplicate

However, when i tried further more, the System ended up messing around

now i am back to the same buggy messages:

creating devices via Device Manager also fails and leaves Orphans:

HI HyperV_guy,

Just checking with you also if you were able to create and enabled VLAN in other OS e.g. Win 7, Win 8 or Win 8.1?

Hi CStarr,

Just to double check if you were able to create and enable VLAN on Windows 7/Windows 8?

As you mentioned "I can create them as I do in 8.1 Pro, but I can not enable them."

I have not tried with the latest version on Win 7 or 8, but I never had any issues with VLANs until I installed Windows 10.

I am now running Windows 10 with all of my VLANs enabled.

I created them by going to Device Manager and right clicking on my NIC under Network Adapters which happens to be a 82579LM and selecting properties.

From there I clicked on the VLANs tab and added my new VLANs.

I could not get them to show as enabled at that point.

I rebooted and they were all enabled and life is good.

I also want to confirm that Intel drivers 20.2 for Windows 10 on Dell Optiplex 7010 do not work with VLANs. I can't create VLAN entries that would show up in VLAN tab. There are created these disabled entries in device manager and network adapter list, though.

I've tried many times to uninstall Intel drivers, reinstall, disable other unrelated drivers (like VirtualBox host only communication NIC).

Hi Jonitis,

Have you check with Dell if they have Windows 10 network driver for Dell Optiplex 7010?

Hi Jonitis,

Further checking we found this is a Microsoft issue and we already reported to Microsoft*, as a workaround, you may revert back to previous operating system or wait until the fix release by Microsoft*.

Hope this clarifies.
