Setting up Edison with Arduino expansion board and a static IP for WiFi

I have a static IP home network, but it seems that all the automated setup instructions/tools are only geared to deal with DHCP, leaving me with no option but to have to hack manually to get my Edison up and running.

Are there any setup scripts that can deal with static IP's?

Also, is this: Edison - Software Downloads the permanent home of the latest Edison firmware - in particular as of today, 19 Dec 2014, the latest firmware is Rel-1-Maint-WW42 -> edison-image-rel1-maint-rel1-ww42-14.zip

Are there any other options available for non-official/unsupported Linux distributions?
