If anyone can help me figure this out, I'd really appreciate it. I just received my new Dell 1737 this weekend, and I ordered it with the T9550 Core 2 Duo processor. All specs I find on this processor say it's a 2.66GHz processor with a FSB speed of 1066MHz, but both Ubuntu and Vista reporte the processor at 800MHz. Does anyone know why this is? The only thing I can think of is that the processor FSB is automatically matching the RAM's clock frequency. Good ol' Dell doesn't allow you to view/change the processor or RAM specs in the BIOS either...lol. Anyway, if anyone has any answers, I'd love to hear 'em...Google was pretty much worthless here.
Let me first say that I am not an expert on processors, but I think I know why you are seeing reduced speed. The Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9550 makes use of Enhanced Intel® Speedstep Technology, a really cool technology that provides perfromance when you need it, and reduces power when you don't. Check out this animated demonstration of Enhanced Intel® Speedstep Technology.
