Bluetooth running and paired, now what?

I have set up Bluetooth pairing between my Intel Edison and a Windows 7 PC, using these instructions: Enabling Bluetooth and Pairing to Device. (so on the Intel Edison I have selected "agent KeyboardDisplay"). According to Windows the available services are "Generic Access Profile", "Generic Attribute Profile" and "Remote Control".

The only Bluetooth experience I have is with a serial connection (on a totally different platform) which isn't listed, so I'm a bit stuck. What can I do with the available services, how can I use them (preferably in Python or an Arduino sketch)? Or is it possible to get serial as available service?
