how to increase the size of /dev/root in edison

    jzd

I met a problem that the space of  /dev/root is not big enough. I want to increase its size.

I tried the Increasing the Root Partition Size , but it doesn't work. May be they are different things, or there is something wrong during my building?

Filesystem           1K-blocks      Used Available Use% Mounted on

      /dev/root               475080    305328    133056  70% /

There seems to be a bug.

After booting the Edison i backuped all the contents of the /boot partition, unmounted /boot, did a 'mkfs.vfat /dev/mmcblk0p7', mounted it again and played back the backup. The root partition then shows only a usage of 17%, 27 MB are free.

            Intel_Raad

There is a bug with the journal and Intel is working on a fix. Every time Edison starts, the system journal create a new directory in /var/log/journal and that keep filling the root partition. You can increase the root size but frequent reboots will continue consume the space on the root partition. Another solution is to delete the old system journal and just keep the latest. To do that make sure Edison is connected to the internet for the time to sync, to check type timedatectl and you should see output similar to:

                    RTC time: Fri 2014-12-05 16:52:58

                   Time zone: Pacific/ (UTC, +0000)

                 NTP enabled: yes

            NTP synchronized: yes

            RTC in local TZ: no

                  DST active: n/a

The default time zone is Universal unless you change it, then cd to /var/log/journal and delete old directories, this is before:

            drwxr-sr-x    2 root     systemd-      4096 Dec  5 16:43 21c505d59b0a4f29a04242516837b9db

            drwxr-sr-x    2 root     systemd-      4096 Dec  5 16:37 3cdb1abf72a645d588169ad771bde31d

            drwxr-sr-x    2 root     systemd-      4096 Jan  1  2000 7039f1bca4364a9d8d43d894a3617175

            drwxr-sr-x    2 root     systemd-      4096 Dec  5 16:32 8256c0e707b64340b1f30925197ef5f8

            drwxr-sr-x    2 root     systemd-      4096 Dec  5 16:34 8b87976068624141874b2cdabfc68987

            And this is after:

            drwxr-sr-x    2 root     systemd-      4096 Dec  5 16:43 21c505d59b0a4f29a04242516837b9db

1, do as Increasing the Root Partition Size

2, use ./flashall.sh to download the image, rather than reboot ota. I find "reboot ota" will not re-partition.
