I haven't found any example strictly with SPI-node.js. I think that an alternative way to do this is looking at the templates and start to create your module. But, you also could use a python example for SPI using MRAA and call the function using Node.js using something like this:

But, the SPI example you linked... it looks like C code? A Python example would be great... Or, maybe I just need to get more comfortable with C...
first of all: pls make sure to have libmraa / upm updated to latest version.
For Python you might want to check the swig generated file /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/mraa.py which provides several functions on spi.
