      Hi, I'm a bit confused i sometimes get a passing and majority of the time get a fail. Is this processor defective?

          Jfig04, I would like to inform you that we have been receiving reports from customers who are having overheating issues with this specific processor.

           

          Our engineering team is currently working on this behavior.

           

          You are free to check the following thread. How best proceed with overheating i7-4790K?

           

          Post # 221 on page 15 in that thread provided some screenshots of the BIOS settings customers should try on their third party boards. This information was provided by one of the engineers.
